the key to this album is the way that each song builds. slowly, carefully, methodically, every song (faust arp excepted for obvious reasons) gains momentum as more and more sounds are found in various nooks and crannies. not that previous radiohead albums haven't done this, but i feel like it's a much more prominent sensation on in rainbows. it's like they've absorbed the electronic eclecticism they discovered during kid a/amnesiac, and have finally fully implemented it into their actual alt-rock stylings - an incredible feat when you consider how gorgeous all of these songs have turned out.
where battles is content to mess around with patterns, turning them inside-out repeatedly with alternating variations (extremely well, i might add...i freaking love mirrored), radiohead has actually allowed their electronic dabblings to play a role in the core melodic sensibilities of the songs - they work so well because they are structured like electronic pieces at their core, but function as beautiful, melodic LOVE SONGS.
this is why i love in rainbows.

I was just thinking about how much I like Faust Arp - it sounds a bit like "Blackbird" or "Julia" from The Beatles' White Album, and a bit like something off of Nick Drake's Bryter Layter with the strings in the background.
That's a very good way of describing the album, in limbo. This album grows on me more and more each day.
------ Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

That makes sense...my first impression was Elliott Smith. It sounds like he could have written it, really.
I love In Rainbows. Every single note is in the perfect place, every vocal line has the perfect subtle inflections. Radiohead have a way of making their stuff sound preordained. It's like they carved their songs out of a big slab of marble.

Has anyone attemped the "01-10" playlist, or as I like to call it, OK Rainbows? I hear the segue from "Subterranean Homesick Alien" to "Nude" is pretty cool.

i made a play list in itunes to see what it sounded like. it sounds pretty good to me. but i think that is more that its radiohead. though that nude transition is really cool.
and for those who don't know binary: 01=1 and 10=2

I just did the "Subterranean Homesick Alien" into "Nude" experiment. While they sound nice as back to back tracks, I'm quite certain that there's not any real "connection" between the two. It's not in the same key, and the ending of "Alien" doesn't resemble the beginning of "Nude", nor do the lyrics have a connection...anyone who thinks there's a deeper meaning between the songs is seriously going on blind faith. I'm pretty sure Nude would sound good following any song. Why? Because it's a good song

I listened to In Computer or, if you prefer, OK Rainbows.
The two albums are interesting to listen to together. When taken together, the sound of the two albums is very cohesive.
I pointed out a while back that I did not think that the release date of 10/10 was accidental. We may have a lot of coincidences here, but the way the two albums flow when put together leads me to believe that Radiohead may have made an effort to make the sound of In Rainbows mesh with OK Computer.

OK, I used my powers to make a mistake. I edited kendo's post instead of quoting it, but here ^^^^ is the exact quote. (Thanks, hudson; I mean dumbledore!)
Now, kendo, based on current info, you're J.K.'s latest pimp, or what?

In Stereogum.com's featured In Rainbows review, suggest to "Listen to 'All I need' after a spin of Boards of Canada's 'Roygbiv," I highly suggest it guys.

Based on current information from JK Rowling, I know a few nice guys I could introduce you to.
Do they like Radiohead?
Doesn't everyone?

i actually didn't like the album on the first listen b/c i was like "wait, radiohead is just copying boards of canada." i really like roygbiv and listen to music has the right to children a lot so i picked up on that pretty quickly.

I just wanted to comment that I find it kind of strange that this thread is in the Indie section, yet there's a Pavement thread (pretty much the definition of "indie" throughout the 90's) in the Alternative section.
Still loving In Rainbows by the way. I'm remembering why I loved Radiohead so much in the first place. It's sparked me to go back and listen to their past albums along with it, and it's been a nice reminder of how good they are.
