Thank god! Too much moralizing and not enough rationalizing, and you might just end up in a stupid convent.

No one has talked about Radiohead in like nine hours! Is everyone still enamored with it now that the initial buzz has worn off?

P.S. I decided I should maybe add a winky face to the end of this so no one thinks I'm too serious.

I'm definitely still enamored with it. I remember early on in this discussion someone said the record made them smile and someone else responded with how listening to Radiohead certainly could not have that effect...but I find that this album illicits pretty positive emotions from me, much more so than their other cd's, even on the more "negative" songs. There are still 2 tracks I can't really get into though, Faust and especially House of Cards, is anyone really enjoying either of those two?

Faust Arp is possibly my favorite song on the album actually. And I'm one of the guys that is decidedly not enamored with it. I think it's a good album though, and I'm digging a lot of the songs.

I love the irregular patterns in his vocal rhythem. It rests between two of the best songs on the album though.

Wow, me any you think pretty much exactly alike on this album, Shadrach. I really like "Faust Arp" and the two songs that surround it as well. I think they're the 3 best songs on the album. The more I listen to the album though, the more I become convinced that I'm never gonna love this album. I don't care for 4 of the songs at all (tracks 1,2,4, and 9 if anyone's interested), lukewarmly like 3 songs, and love 3 (the aforementioned tracks 5-7). In the 5 records before this one there are only 3 songs overall that I don't like ("Just," "The National Anthem," and "We Suck Young Blood"), and just about everything else I love.

(Cue several people complaining that one or more of the above mentioned songs are their favorite Radiohead songs.)

Yeah, I'd say that your map of In Rainbows matches mine exactly.

I really like "We Suck Young Blood" though. However, my opinion is totally subjective. I was in the former soviet union when the album came out. The slow dirge piano, slow motion hand claps, and the ominous "I'm coming for you and there's nothing you can do about it" feel of the song was very gripping in that context. I would listen to it while riding the bus past the giant steel factory late at night. You could see the reflection of the fires burning inside the walls reflecting off the low level clouds and smog. And you were surounded by drunk eyes that would just stare at you from behind foul smelling cigarettes and smile at you knowing you didn't belong.

But "1, 2 and 4" of In Rainbows? I would have thought that "not caring" for those would be anathema to most listeners.

I think of all their albums except pablo honey it will have the least replay value. I was thinking once a day should be fine but I can't get lost in every or nearly every song like I have done in the past.

I am still figuring out ok computer and kid a after a billion listens. But after 20 listens of in rainbows I don't have that same excitement to listen through the whole thing. I don't know I feel wierd about it right now.

Faust Arp is easily the weakest track for me. The vocals fall flat like a "Wolf At The Door" without the vitriol and fear. In total, I'm struck by how many times they re-wrote "Scatterbrain" and called the collective "In Rainbows."

Another anecdote: my roommate and I got into a big argument about "All I Need." I was trying to argue that the song stagnates too much, that the "rousing" ending climax is really just one chord and some assorted noisy layers. I realized that he just has a different conception of what he's looking for in a Radiohead record. It's funny that such a simple record would cause such a split of opinion.

"Faust Arp" is one of the strongest tracks, IMHO, but I actually don't dislike any of the tracks. And I wish I had the type of roommates that I could actually discuss this album with. I've actually not been able to talk about the album at all in the 'real' world. Frowner

I think "Faust Arp" is probably the weakest track too. It's not bad at all, but it kind of feels out of place with the rest of the album. It sort of reminds me of the Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby" or any number of Elliot Smith songs. The fact that it's the shortest track on the album sort of saves it. Luckily, the tracks that bookend it are both really strong.

My gf likes it but she doesn't explain to me why she likes albums. I think she's not confident enough yet in her taste. I can't wait until she's willing to debate music with me, I know she's gonna bring up good points and I'm gonna have to take a step back and say "damn.. you got me babe. Maybe I'll need to listen to that again and reconsider."

I've been trying to get her to come on these forums. I guess I should probably tell her that I (like a lot of us) started out on this forum very unsure of myself, asking for recs more than stating opinion, but now I've got the courage to put my thoughts out there.

Thank you guys! Oh, I'm getting all teary-eyed now.
