As a huge Beck fan, this certainly intrigues me. I just read somewhere that Danger Mouse was announced as the producer since March but I had no idea. With his stellar work on The Black Keys' latest effort, it's shaping up to be a good year for Danger Mouse.
And it's cool that this will be released a few weeks after my birthday! Thanks for the heads up.

I'm looking forward to a return to form for Beck. His best work usually involves clever genre bending, like Midnight Vultures and Mutations. I thought on The Information, he played it too straight up. Instead of the kitchy countrified rap of Loser, I thought most of The Information was played too close to hip-hop, and instead of being innovative, sounded like lazy white rap.
Or, maybe I just missed the point on The Information.

Well, my Beck CD list ranking shake down like this: 1. Odelay 2. Midnite Vultures 3. Sea Change 4. Guero 5. One Foot in the Grave 6. Mellow Gold 7. The Information 8. Mutations 9. Stereopathic Soulmanure
So obviously I didn't enjoy the Beck of The Information as much either, but I thought the first 11 tracks on it were all solid, and after that, I lost interest, and usually just stop the CD and change it up.
A return to the Odelay Beck would be awesome...I think Danger Mouse could definitely bring that Beck back out.

Glad to see Sea Change so high on your list anbc. That is one fantastic album, by any measure, but especially for it's self-contain... edness. Great album to get lost in for a week if you're (a) living in a big city for the first time, or (b) bummed as hell.
Just got the news, this album is coming out in the next 4-6 weeks!
And he did some collabs with...oh, I don't know, someone named Cat Power!

And that’s not all — we’ve also heard that said album will be produced by Danger Mouse and feature collaborations with a host of artists, including Cat Power.
Our amazing sources also say that fans can expect an official announcement about the album veeerrrry soon.
In the meantime, Beck is busy lining up appearances at various European summer festivals, in addition to a handful of shows on the West Coast in late August.
Anyway, don’t say we didn’t warn you…

Thank you. Thank you for going back and editing the original title. Thank you for not creating a new, pointless thread when you already created this one. Thank you for keeping us updated and for posting neat tidbits here and there. Thank you, it's greatly appreciated.
I will check out the song when I get back home. For now, I am off to buy a sub!

I haven't heard much from Beck, but it seems that with 'Chemtrails' he took some hints from the 'Broken Drum' Boards of Canada remix, which sounds very similar with the big drums and mellow vocals.
That being said the song currently has me in awe and is probably the best song I've heard this year. Wow.
Does his older stuff sound like this? Because if it does I have some digging to do.

I just checked out this track and nearly peed my shorts. It's pretty amazing and not at all like what I'm used to hearing from the man. Honestly, I'm sort of concerned that with the duo of Beck and Dangermouse and this leaked song, I may be setting myself up for a letdown or I may simply be creating far too high expectations. Regardless, I can't wait for the album.

Nope, this is a totally new style for Beck. He's done so much other crazy stuff though, there's bound to be some other style he's done that you enjoy...perhaps his stuff on Sea Change or Mutations.

You can never say whether a song sounds like old Beck, because every Beck album sounds different:
Odelay - kind of a mix between folk rock, alt country, and electronic (I was having trouble classifying this one - any suggestions?)
Midnight Vultures - kind of a cross between 70s funk and psychedelic rock
Mutations - early rock/blues with a more modern twist
Sea Change - straight up folk rock for the broken hearted
Guero - sort of an urban latin feel to it
The Information - heavy hip-hop influences
This song has more of a psychedelic feel to it, so probably the closest would be Midnight Vultures.
I really enjoyed this single. I agree with krug - I was let down by both Guero and The Information. After hearing this single, though, I'm cautiously optimistic for the new album.

Wow thanks that's really helpful. It's always nice to see an artist that keeps changing it up. I'll definitely be waiting for this release.
