Anyone want to comment on what in the world is really going on here?

quote:
Hello everyone.

Well, the new album is finished, and it's coming out in 10 days;

We've called it In Rainbows.

Love from us all.
Jonny

That is off their official website

and so is this page

http://www.inrainbows.com/Store/index.html

I don't trust the internet enough not to think that this might be a huge hoax. In fact I hardly trust Radiohead themselves not to think this is just a huge hoax. Anyone know anything else about this?

P.S. I actually didn't mean this to be in the Indie Rock section, but if they are seriously releaseing their album themselves electronically, then maybe it's appropriate.

It seems pretty legit, although I can't find out everything I want to know. For example, they make it look like if you request the digital download of the single disc, it's free. This looks really sweet, but I'm not even sure that I'd want to pay $80 for it, although it's probably well worth it. Here's the tracklisting. The more I think about it, I probably will get if it's truly legit. My 20th wedding anniversary is October 11, and Brenda's already getting the earrings she wants. Cool

Yeah, why would you listen to it? It's not "just indie," after all.

This is insane! So apparently they were just messing with us when they said it wouldn't be released this year? Awesome.

Actually, it could be as indie as you can get. I hear they may be self-releasing this, which would be the awesomest thing ever.

and I had just finalized my top 30 list. Here's hoping Radiohead can disrupt my top 5 (crossing fingers).

according to p4k, the digital version will be released through their website, with the price determined by the buyer (what a nice experiment). I'm not sure how they're releasing the TWO disk hard copy, though.

Heh, I'll be disappointed if it can't disrupt my top 1.

$80? It's 40 euros which is about $55 or so. I'm thinking about going this route (2xLP and CD with digital dl)

Ohh.. if it's pounds then it would be $80. Yikes!

There's no way I can pay anywhere near that kind of money for the album. Surely there's gonna be a cheaper option. I mean, since they're self-releasing it I want to buy it, but man...that's a lot of dough.

The site says 40 Pounds, not euros. That's about $80.

Yeah, the box set costs about $80, but you can also pay as much as you want for the digital download. I figure I'll throw them about 10 bucks for it.

I'm bummed that they are still withholding half the songs from people that don't pay the $80. People are just going to download them for free anyway. They know this.

I'm sad, also, that it's going to be released the day after Sunset Rubdown. Talk about stealing someones thunder. Beirut also.

According to these two legit web sites: 1 and 2--the second one is signed by Jonny Greenwood himself--this is confirmed by the band.

I am really intrigued as to why they are choosing to release it in this manner. I would love to go for the $80 set but I am not sure I want to spend that much. Then again, it is Radiohead and with their ability, it is probably worth it.

Wait, if you pay for the download they don't give you all the songs? That's a bunch of crap. I was getting ready to pay $2 for the download (I've heard that you have to pay 1 pound and change, which I think will end up being $2+), but screw that. I want the whole thing if I'm gonna pay for it.

Yeah. The second disk of music is apparently only on the second disk that comes with the Diskbox. I was really looking forward to "Up on the Ladder". Oh well.

I guess it makes sense to make yourself a source of the album, even for people looking to just download it for free. That way people will have to sortof admit that they are getting it from the artist without paying money. I think most people will just give them a couple of bucks.
