I just heard Josh Ritter's "Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter" this afternoon, and I have to say it is brilliant. It's very different from his old style. To my ears the first and second songs actually sound like covers of Modest Mouse and Spoon (in that order), musically and instrumentally. Lyrically he is at the top of his game, and entirely Josh. 'The Tempation of Adam' is the best song I've heard all year.
This guy better get some good reviews, and some recognition for once.

First off, someone needs to move this to the Alternative forum. Ritter's getting big and is on a major label.
I've never been a big fan of his, but my little brother is. I know Stephen King named Animal Years his album of the year last year. I haven't heard the new one yet, though I've heard from everywhere that it's really different than anything he's done before.

So, I had no idea he was on a major label. And what makes you say he's "getting big". I haven't heard a single person mention his new album yet at all.

Probably because it isn't out yet. Or else it just came out. My brother pre-ordered it and hasn't gotten it.

Okay. I get it. John Ritter. That's cool, their names sound the same and I never noticed.
Anyway. Let me know when someone hears the album. I'm not looking for everyone to love it. I just want to hear someone else's opinion on it. What influences do you hear? What lyrical connections? What rip off melodies? What inconsistencies exist? Is it good, or bad?

Josh Ritter is not getting big. He may be on a major label but he's definitely not getting big. He should be, but isn't.

I still feel that the first Problem Child is just too funny. Some people despise it, I feel ashamed for not owning it. John Ritter was in some good stuff.

Major label or not, I was in Walmart yesterday and they were selling mass quantities of Spoon, but there wasn't a Josh Ritter album to be found. Who did you say is getting big and shouldn't be talked about in the Indie section?

That could have something to do with Spoon being tons better than Ritter. I don't know though, sometimes the movies are hard to find at Wal-Mart. The Problem Child films might be under the children's side instead of comedies. Good luck and let me know if you find it!

Right, because that is how Walmart decides what it is going to sell. I think it has more to do with the fact that Spoon is on the new "This is Next!" compilation that they are selling in mass doses.

So you prefer Ritter over Spoon eh? Well it's apples and oranges for me; I can't really say what's better when one was an actor and the other is arguably the best band of the decade.
It's good to see that fans of his movies/shows/misc. projects are pulling together and supporting him though.

3000 posts, huh Fragile... Are any of them about something, or is this mostly the extent of your life on the board?
Not that I'm complaining. Personally I love both Josh and his brother John, and I used to be a huge fan of their father Tex. But your obsession with John Ritter, and constant confusion is bordering on ridiculous.

My brother is an enormous Josh Ritter fan--he's probably his favorite artist (he even owns his self-titled debut)--and he says he doesn't really like Historical Conquests. That kind of surprised me, 'cause I figured he's such a fanboy of Ritter that he'd profess to like it no matter what it sounded like.
