To me Jeff Buckley is the greatest artist who ever lived- or died for that matter. Even before I understood music, I heard songs from Grace from my older sister and knew I was listening to something special. Even his Sketches show what an artist he could have been. in the time I've spent looking at music reviews, I have rarely seen a bad review. Just check out this link to rateyoumusic.com and see how over a thousand people gave Grace such a high score.
Of course, thats just me. What does everyone else think? Is there anyone who doesn't like him?
Also, If someone could enlighten me on his genre. I put him in Alternative because he's a bit different.

I consider Buckley and Nick Drake to be the two biggest personal losses in music history. Both were full of talent and promise. Very sad indeed because we will simply never know. Had Jeff Mangum died after ITAOTS, we would definately be saying the same thing though. Go figure. Sometimes a river runs it's course in an unusually short amount of time.

Have you heard Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk. I think they start to show what he was capable of as a lyrisist and musician. Back in New York City and Murder Suicide Meteor Slave show a much darker side of his work, the former being a cover of a Genesis song and a personal favourite of mine.

Yes. I have Jeff and Nick's entire catalogs and both are amazing. I even bought the 4 disc Grace Legacy Edition although I already had the album. "New Years Prayer" and "Lover You Should Have Come Over" are my personal favs.

If you like Jeff Buckley and Nick Drake, there is a good chance you will love Tim Buckley, Jeff's father and almost exact contemporary of Nick.
Tim died in 1975 at age 28 from an overdose, but managed to make 9 LP's before that. His voice sounds like Jeff's, and I think his best work is on the same level as Drake's, uncomparable and timeless.
My personal favorite of Tim Buckley is 'Blue Afternoon': all excellent songs that can be listened to over and over, since all musicians are doing interesting things all the time. I like especcially the guitarsolo's of Lee Underwood that almost never take center stage like in most jazz and rock, but continue in the background while Tim is singing. A vibraphone appears in the same way, loosely and modestly contributing to the general effect.
