It's difficult finding music that fits this description. So far, I'd say the following are beautiful pieces of music:

Sigur Ros: Olsen Olsen, Hoppipola, Staralfur
Explosions in the sky: Your hand in mine
Godspeed Black emperor: Lift your skinny fists
Mogwai: Tracy
Enya: Water shows the hidden heart

I'm wondering if anyone else shares similar taste, and whether they could add their choices onto this list. I basically love anything with a really, great melody and or/orchestrals. Any suggestions appreciated.

Hello fellow Queenslander...welcome to MC.

Fripp & Eno - 'The Equatorial Stars.

This is indescribably gorgeous instrumental music thats' sounds as if it was born in the heart of a dying nebula.

Fripp's guitar lines melt and warp and contain multitudes.

Blow, blow, thou winter wind.
Thou art not so unkind
As man's ingratitude.

I've probably mentioned a few of these on Desert Island Discs, but no matter. I find these works very beautiful -

The Orb - Pomme Fritz
Steve Reich & Pat Metheny - Electric counterpoint
Vangelis - Bladerunner soundtrack
Ed Alleyne Johnson - Ultraviolet

I bet you'd like M83. Check out Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts.

Joanna Newsom seems like a good place to look.

The track "Home" by Engineers, from their self-titled, is grand, symphonic, shoegazy beauty...
