Oh it's true all right. Maybe just Billy and Jimmy but it seems like it's ticking right along.

Here's a thread on the whole thing:

I certainly believe the rumor is finally true, but unfortunately, I don't have high hopes for the album.

I loved "Siamese Dream" and "Melancholy" but I haven't heard much to love since then.

It's official. The new album is called "Zeitgeist" and will be released on 07-07-07. Seriously.

I don't think D'Arcy and James Iha are on board. So its really just a Corgan solo project with Jimmy Chamberlain on drums. Basically another Zwan album.

Actually, wasn't that Siamese Dream?

It doesn't really matter who else is on board, 'cause Billy will do what Billy wants. I just hope it's one of those "return to form"-type albums like Pearl Jam's last one. I'd be satisfied with that.

Yes, but Siamese Dream was released in 1993, 14 years ago. I'd be willing to bet its a lot closer to Zwan than Siamese Dream.

I predict the truth will be somewhere between the two. Guitars will be prominent. It definitely will not be another Adore or thefutureembrace. I think Billy's shooting for the big-time again. With a title like "Zeitgeist" it will be a huge production like Mellon Collie was. The big question is whether he has any tunes to back it up.

Well, for all of the shit that Zwan takes, it wasn't all bad. "Lyric" is a great song, a handful of others like "Honestly", "Come with me", "Settle Down" are pretty good as well. If you can make it through the first five god-awful minutes of "Jesus, I/Mary Star of the Sea" the last nine minutes are pretty damn great. So we know Billy Corgan can still write a good rock song. But for these brightspots, there are too many crappy songs dragging it all down hard. Here's hoping he can recapture the magic and write a top to bottom solid album.

What do you mean? I saw the Punkins on the Siamese Dream tour and Iha and D'Arcy were on stage-- I think Iha even gets some co-writing credits on that album.

On another note, I just heard something about 8 or 9 nights in Asheville, NC?? What is that all about? The Orange Peel is a great venue, but why North Carolina?

Just 'cos they had to play it live that way doesn't mean that was the way it was recorded. Billy apparently overdubbed most or all of the guitar and bass parts himself because the other members couldn't satisfy him. Wikipedia has more, check it if you like.

Yeah, one of my problems with the Pumpkins as a band (though this does not affect my appreciation of their music) is that they bitch, moan and complain a lot (or are too stoned to bitch whine and moan). They seem to, erm, not get along well? Razzer

I saw in an interview once that Darcy and James wrote most of their parts on Siamese Dream, but Billy recorded them because he could play them in fewer takes.
