Are you serious?? It's low-quality cofee table rock. I always thought a lot of people like Oasis precisely because of the image they conveyed.

Is 'low-quality coffee table rock' supposed to be an insult?

I love fine food, good books, art films, and all the 'highbrow' stuff, but I just as often find myself craving something lowbrow: a Farrelly Brothers movie, greasy diner food, trashy novels. Oasis is a nice counterpoint to overly intellectual, thought-provoking music: it's catchy as hell, thoughtless, and doesn't require you to do any WORK to enjoy it. That's a virtue, to my mind, when you want something thoughtless.

I hate their image, though. We get it. You guys think you're awesome. Thanks!

you know, I think if Oasis wasn't so popular, they'd be a much more beloved band. Like supergrass or nada surf or something. Their music isn't great, but its not horrible (well it used to not be). "Champagne supernova" is a great song, and "wonderwall" is pretty damn good too.

But if you asked me if I cared, the answer is no.

Oasis is a good band. The Best british band? I've seen better. Their music and lyrics is so simplistic its not even funny.

There was a point in time when I cared for Oasis. Back when they can hit up a couple of good pop songs ripe for the radio. I'll admit I've enjoyed champagne supernova and a couple of their ballads....but they are not changing the face of rock n roll, nor will they ever.

The Gallagher brothers....Noel I can stand for awhile but Liam is a self-indulgent cock who has nothing better to do then swim in his own arrogance. Noel is quite the same. He praises his own songs, even though they aren't even that good, and he picks on Robbie Williams.

Did I care about Oasis? At one point. Do I care about them now? No. I do admit that their swagger and cockyness can get pretty entertaining at times. But what is the use, when you can't even write good music anymore?

We absolutely care about OASIS!
Honestly, I really don't want to see this band split up. I'm a fan since their beginning and I want to hear new recordings in the future.
They are not always really good, but it's part of the masterplan. Noel has an absolute sense of melody, and Liam's particuliar voice is a trademark for the band.
Maybe they have a shitty attitude sometimes... but who cares? LET'S ROCK!

Thank you Matcool.
Listen. Oasis had there chance in America, and it has passed them by. So what. I will still buy their albums, and try to catch them live when I can.
I can make the comparison with R.E.M. Now REM has been around alot longer, but they aren't really relevant anymore. So should I not care about REM? Hell no, I love REM and I love Oasis.
It all comes down to a matter of taste. Some people like Oasis and their cocky, anthemic, albeit simple, rock and roll, or they won't, Simple as that.

Oasis are one of the best bands on the planet.

While they're music is not as innovative as say...Radiohead, it is pure rock'n'roll. The first time I listened to Supersonic, Some Might Say or Wonderwall, I was captivated by the heavenly quality of the kinetic sound. There's only been one other band that captivate you from the first listen, and that's U2.

I don't think they really like America, and see all as idiots, which is understandable because when you're in America it's like living on cloud 9 unless you're in the ghettos.

I have to admit they're fourth album was rubbish, with only 1.5 decent songs on it, and they're most recent two records have been mediocre.

The best of Oasis:

Live forever
Cigarettes & Alcohol
Whatever
Supersonic
Bring it On Down
Slider Away
Wonderwall
Don't Look Back In Anger
Somemight Say
Aquiesque (sP?!)
She's Electric
Champaige Supernova
Fade Away
Half The World Away
D'you Know What I Mean
Don't Go Away
Stand By Me (not one of my faves but still good)
It's Gettin' Better Man
All Around The World
My Big Mouth
I Hope, I Think, I Know
Go Let It Out
Little By Little
The Hindu Times

'You call these bagels?'

Love them or hate them people clearly care about Oasis as proved by the reaction they get on forums such as this. People call them fake, media puppets ect yet they are still talking about them so arn't you lot giving them what they want?

Oh and Malkmus, they are from Manchester not London. Try telling Liam that he has a cockny accent and see what reaction you get!!!

I wouldn't call myself the biggest Oasis fan, but they had some good singles, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I've heard a lot of people mention the words 'rock on' or 'pure rock' when refering to oasis or comparing them to U2..

Oasis arn't pure rock, theyre music isn't even that rocky, their lifestyle isn't that of rock stars really, they live more like council estate thugs. And that's all I really see in Liam. Obviously his arrogance is annoying too, but his whole chavyness pisses me off. The swagger, the crappy clothes, the way he just doesn't seem to care about anything but his self..

Now, obviously image isn't everything in a band, but theyre music is boring too. Liam has a boring, irratating voice, and Noel hasn't much talent either. All their songs have so simplistic lyrics and riffs (if you can really even call them that) they have an occasional good tune like champagne supernova, but genereally theyre music is bland, and just boring.

How they got as big as they have has always been a mystery to me. Now, Blur on the other hand..

I think the former point answers the latter. They got big because they do the simplistic stuff that the average folks like, for better or worse. Blur has always been a little more obtuse, and that's not going to sell to Joe Six Pack.

Oasis is Britpop fast food. Blur is a nice Britpop meal. Each is good, when you're in the mood for it, but the mood's gotta strike you.

Question is, if you aren't British and don't have much feeling about class divides, London and (north) country, how on earth could a person still care too much about Oasis? I guess they might fill a certain international blue collar rock niche but it's a long time since they passed their use by date as a musical force isn't it? Still, if they rocked your world once why shouldn't they still be rocking it? The rolling stones are still touring after all...
