I'm wondering what other people think of Glenn Kotche, Wilco's drummer. Something about Wilco's live shows has bugged me--I enjoy them thoroughly, but something's not right, and I think it's the drumming. Don't get me wrong, Glenn is amazing in many ways. But basically I think my problem is that he sounds like a classical percussionist behind a drum kit, rather than a "rock drummer." I believe he is indeed clasically trained, hence his penchant for using crotales and other untraditional components for his drum kit..but his beat just isn't very "rockin'" to me, usually. He sounds less like a rhythmic anchor and more like rhythmic accompaniment, if that makes sense.
I agree with your comparison, but I think that's a *good* thing. As much as I like Ken Coomer, Kotche just blows me away, especially live.

I agree with you commontone. I was so excited when I was listening Kicking Television for the first time that I said these CDs were excellent and all... but the more I listen to KT, the more I see the problems of a live record. It doesn't really surprise me: I hate live recording. Probably one of my last live album.
