Very excited about this one as well. I have all five of their albums--all five are terrific--and I hope their new one is just as grst.

I don't know if I've ever been so excited for an album. It's going to be completely amazing, I know it.

I totally agree. It just blew me away. I think i've listened to it, maybe, 6 times today already. The synths are such an interesting choice to accompany the "heavy" guitar and drums. I'm now terribly excited for the new album. but... knowing i have to wait until June 19th to hear the rest is killing me!

Can you elaborate Chamberk? This is one of the few releases I'm looking forward to in the next few months. Is it a return to their De Stijl days as some have suggested, or another strange step forward?

A little of both. There are a couple of songs that would go really well with De Stilj, but they've got songs with horns and pipes all over the place, as well. There's a Patti Page cover that's just awesome (Conquest) and one song that sounds like a Celtic folk song (Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn). Despite the genre hopping there are a couple of really great straight rockers. However, when I look back on it, De Stilj had some really heavy blues elements, and I don't really see them here. I haven't heard Get Behind Me Satan (beyond the singles) so I can't say how much of an improvement Icky Thump is, but it's definitely a solid album.

It's an absolutely outstanding album for sure. It's surprising and engaging, weird yet accessible, there are beautiful songs and songs that will rattle your teeth and threaten to combust. The sound they achieved is huge on this record. Lyrically, it may be some of Jack's best work. My Favorites at this moment: Rag & Bone: Humor meets eccentric ROCK. Little Cream Soda: Heavy, gritty metal. This one can't be played too loud. I'm Slowly Turning Into You: That droning organ, those brilliant guitar solos. Need I say more? Catch Hell Blues: Slippery sliding dirty blues. Death Letter and Little Bird's bastard child. 300 mph Torrential Outpour Blues: A blues groove punctuated by chaotic blasts of beautiful racket. I'm A Martyr For My Love For You: Heartbreaking, beautiful, unforgettable. Every track is quality though. Again, a really great record.

the White Stripes are definately one of my favorite bands. They have a really different sound than other alternative bands. It seems like all of the popular alternative bands sound the same (Think Fall Out Boy, Good Charlotte, AFI, the new Linkin Park album) Thats why I really like the White Stripes.
P.S. Icky Thump and Rag and Bone rock!
