Ah, KLT. Ever the voice of reason. Fine points, and I'm with ya. Regardless of what I may think of the Waits/Apple comparison, I give Frank credit for starting a topic that was new and got people talking.

You're still crazy, Frank. But not quite Filmore crazy.

klt, are you telling me that there's already a thread about "Best Popular 'Indie' Album of the Moment of 2006"? Shhsh. I was going to start that one up today.

I think this is a good thread. It's gotten a lot more traffic than the ones I've been starting. Welcome to the site, Frank. Cool

Also, leland recovered from the heart attack quite nicely.

Thanks to mark f and keylimetrev for your posts...and to everyone else as well.
I went and checked out Jesca Hoop there yesterday, as mentioned earlier in this thread by resident health risk m.leland. Very good. Not as good as Fiona of course ( Wink), but talented nonetheless. Sounds a bit like Tom Ovans in my view, of Killing Me fame...

I found lelands post of a man having a heart attack completely unnessecary and innappropriate, Frank made a perfectly valid point, which by the way, I think is right on the money and was greeted with a picture of a man dying, honestly if this is all people have to post then they shouldn't post at all!! Thats my 2 cents anyway and I'm sure I'll be ridiculed for it!!

No ridicule. I just think we have different standard for what's 'appropriate.' I found his joke to be pretty funny, if slightly off color. I appreciate the fact that you, and others, did not. It seems to be a little much, however, to say that, because YOU find a post tasteless or a joke unfunny, the person posting it shouldn't post at all. But that's neither here nor there...let the Fiona/Tom discussion begin anew, or let new discussion begin on some other topic elsewhere.

As keylimetrev and mark f welcomed me, allow me to be the first to say welcome aboard to you Brian Fantana. What's your thinking on this Jesca Hoop lady? And indeed, everyone else's. I reckon it's pretty clear why Waits digs her, and I do too. Now I'm off to start a thread on the magnificent Lhasa de Sela. Hope to see you there folks. There'll be nibbles and everything...

I highly doubt it. 'Tidal' is decent but some of the songs are so uninteresting. And 'Extraordinary Machine' is just horrible. Those lyrics, so uninspired and dull. The original version was better, yeah, but still not great.

Cripes, Filmore. What's up with that. I mean, usually somebody invokes either 1) Tiny Mix Tapes or 2) Mariah Carey and you're there.

Sigh...it took you three months to respond? I feel like you don't even care. Now, I'm all sad.

Prussian Blue? You sick pup.

Frank: quit yer cryin'. So I called you a madman -- I did that chiefly because you argued from an untenable position.

"Fiona Apple is the new Tom Waits"? Trust me, based on that statement, I could have called you worse.

You might as well have said Chris Botti is the new Louis Armstrong. Just because they both sing and play the same instrument doesn't make it legendary stuff. While I have no problem with Fiona Apple (personally, I can take her or leave her), I think it's too early in the game be making this kind of sweeping statement.

I happen to like Fiona, although I'm not sure about the Tom Waits comparison.

I've never heard the original takes of Extraordinary Machine. Does anybody know where I can get it (not that I'd condone music piracy)? Roll Eyes
