At first glance I misread "top form" as "pop town", and based on the small portions of the album that I've heard, I was going to agree.

I'm glad you like it though, because I'm actually a fan of Muse and have been disapointed by the negative early reactions I've been seeing lately.

God. I'm not going to lie, when it comes to Muse, this is a priceless example of a band whose music doesn't really bother me too much...until I hear people talk about how much they like them and how they are the best thing since sliced bread.

I'm certainly not talking about Shadrach, or likely ANYBODY who contributes regularly on the metacritic forums, but I've met a few people in my daily travels that think WAY too highly of this band, and it has seriously ruined them for me.

It's actually a bit of a problem. I seriously hate this band. And it has so little to do with their actual music as with the fans - it's like the Oakland Raiders or the New York Yankees. I don't really hate the teams, the players, or anything like that...it's the fans.

I agree, crobb. I don't necessarily hate this band's music. In fact, I really enjoyed Origin of Symmetry and a few songs off Absolution. The thing is, I have this annoying habit of making mixtapes for my friends. So my decision to include Muse on a couple mixes spawned a few(!) superfans who, in turn, completely ruined the band for me. The fact that I frequently interact with these people gives Muse little chance for redemption.

And I will say that I really gave Black Holes and Revelations a chance and couldn't stand it.

BH&R is really wild. It has incredible songs and awful ones.

I hate those fanboys, I must admit. I heard a group of people talking about how Muse were our generation's Beatles. Needless to say, I lawled.

I saw this picture today, and I also lawled.

Wow. That's hillarious. I'm pretty sure if Han Solo had a favorite band, it wouldn't actually be Radiohead though. He's much more "Rock'n'Roll". Infact. I think he might actually prefer Muse.

You know. We should maybe start a thread where we discuss fictional characters and who their favorite bands would be. I think we can at least all agree that Chewbacca would prefer Mastadon, right?

Anyway. I have heard that Muse has crazy dumb fans, and I've come across a few on the internet, but I've been saved from encountering any in person. Infact, I live in such a music culture bubble that I doubt anyone within two degrees of me here in Alaska would even be able to name more than two of their songs, assuming they even knew who they were.

So, I can enjoy their music without having to worry about image, or fans.

Good calls on Chewbacca and Han Solo.

I'm sure R2-D2 could get down with some electronic/glitch music. Probably someone like SND.

Actually, maybe R2-D2 likes rap...

We need to actually create a thread in General Music Discussion to discuss this. It could be legendary. Everybody has favorite characters from TV, movies, books, etc. Hell, we could even speculate as to what music long-gone musicians would be listening to today. Shadrach, I nominate thee to create the awesome thread, since it was your brainchild in the first place.

The firts song frome the latest album that comes up for me is "The United States of Eurasia". It's seems like a great record, not of that kind I would listen to every day, but the one you have to admit is great. It's Muse with Queen stamp and some Chopin on it. The rest of the album still has to grow on me.

Yes, USofE is closest to their older approach - this time they decided to stack the front of the album with the "songs" and then slowly introduce the "epics" be they orchestral like USofE or rock like "Unnatural Selection" - then end with their most different epic - the wholly symphonic exogenisis etc. It's structured like a gradual journey from the more down to earth to the more off the planet. This approach was confirmed by the band in a recent interview.

Hello all,

I have been reading this thread and felt compelled to offer a defence of the Muse fans slighted in a number of the posts so far.

Firstly, lets get one thing out of the way, for me there is very little really bad music. There is a lot of music I don't like and quite a bit I don't get at all, but I am not so pretentious to think I know what good music is and the next person know's nothing.

So to Muse, and the fans, which I would most definately count myself one of. I think half the problem with alot of us Muse 'fan boys' is that we are fed up with not being able to read anything about the band that does not include the word 'Radiohead'. It's very frustrating to be judged solely against another band. I think in the days of Showbiz it was a fair comparison but I think the two bands don't live in the same street let alone sit at the same table. and just for your information, I love Radiohead.

So, for this reason alone we seem to have a little chip on our shoulders bourne from this frustration alone. Maybe that's what stirs the passionate, over hype you often get from a Muse Fan, I don't know.

All I would say to all those people out there who hate Muse because of the fans or simply write Muse off as a Radiohead'lite copycat act, is, go see them live, then, if you still hate Muse, fair play to you. Enjoy what you do like. Smiler

Wrong thread. This one is for the album "The Resistance".

After several listens I will say that this album may be better that Supermassive. It's solid from cover to cover. These are easily some of their catchiest and most creative jams.
