Think of the absolute worse movie, worse acting, worse dialog you can remember seeing at your favorite theater. Now multiple that by ten and you have M. Night Shyamalan’s “ The Happening”. Just when you think you’ve seen his worse movie he pulls you back in with this highly publicized horror tale. The movie is so bad you want to organize a group of vigilantes and burn down the theater. His 2006 “Lady In The Water” was his last trashy try as writer/director. The ONLY movie of his that was an absolute thriller was the 1999 Bruce Willis “The Sixth Sense”. From that point in time the only thing that became positive from this writer/director was his bank account. The acting/dialog in this movie is so terrible you almost want to laugh. And at the end you simply just want to shoot yourself for the time and money you wasted. The plot/story line is so ridiculous I can’t imagine how he could possibly think anyone could remotely find this film entertaining. India did not produce an award winning addition to Hollywood filmmaking. For those of you contemplating seeing this movie think again. Take your price of admission and put it in slot machines, throw it out a window. Anything would be better then buying a ticket for this mess of a movie. Where’s John Wayne when you really need him??
when this movie started i got pretty freaked out not knowing anything about the plot. but it never really capitalized on its potential, it could have been truly horrific with people actually scratching their faces off or a more detailed lawn mowing you know. an the whole wind thing was just a massive plot flaw in itself

I wasn't going to spend any time discussing this movie and it's been about a month since I decided to watch it on Netflix and I'm sorry I did. But since there was a comment about how bad Cloverfield (2008) was and I couldn't let pass some commentary on another compellingly and for me personally worse movie. I found The Happening (2008) to be slow, uninvolving, irritatingly unbelievable, the acting oddly strange and unappealing, artificial and without appeal...almost as if the actors themselves were in some sort of foggy dissociated, uncaring mode. I wanted to like this movie and thought it had great potential but it was handled terribly. One of the worst movies of the year and perhaps the decade.

I've never seen a film so trashy as this. This film is a complete waste of anyone's time. People are better off planting lettuce seeds at their yards. The trailer was good. Frankly, I was intrigued. After I saw the film. Stupor. Not even close really. I was comatose.
The only redeeming quality about The Happening is that it was so bad, it was actually funny. It was like one of those B-horror movies they show on the Sci-Fi channel, only it had a big budget and starred recognizable actors.
Seriously, if someone wanted to make a parody of an M. Night Shyamalan film, they wouldn't even have to change the script.

"I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"

I guess this movie wasn't terrible enough for me because I didn't find it funny, I found it frustrating and a waste of my time hoping something better would come but it never did and as for the ending, it was just more typical horror movie repetition, nothing original for me.
