I must be one of the few who still takes joy in compiling a "Worst of 2008" list to recognize those films that deserve to be pounded. It even seems that most mainstream critics no longer include a "Worst of" List when they compile their "Best of" List.

I only have six so far...perhaps I'll have more to add in a couple of weeks.

Also, please note that I don't even go to those movies that get a Red score from Metacritic...I don't need to see them to know they probably stink, so they thus are not included on my list.

1. Shine A Light
2. Redbelt
3. Flight of the Red Balloon
4. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (I think that's the full name)
5. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
6. The Band's Visit

Yes...I know many people adored my #6 choice, but I was just bored.

I was disappointed in Iron Man (2008) but I can't say it was among the worst films of 2008. Robert Downey Jr., for me, adds something special to almost all his roles he plays. I enjoyed the movie, but it just didn't affect me that way even Hancock did.

band's visit was a descent film which in the wrong hands could have been overly dramatic in any scene. the narrative was held by a light touch and really great framing. in the same vain flight of the red balloon's tone is very casual and its brilliance lies in the gorgeous framing of the mundane rituals of everyday life. the frame itself is calm but there is soo much going on in it.

flight ended up being my favorite film from last year. i think a couple other ppl on this forum had the same opinion as u. ppl have complained about the pace of the film. what did u find so terrible about flight?

Disaster Movie. Just try and name something as bad as this (no, Jonas Brothers 3-D concert experience doesn't count).

Yes...it was the pace that I found so terribly boring. And to me, why was the "Red Balloon" even in the title of this picture? I thought it might have been a remake of the original, or something like that.

Sorry it took me so long to reply...there wasn't much activity on this thread, so I stopped looking.

Care must be taken to be more specific and it helps to refer back to the post you are responding to. At least it makes it easier for the reader. I'm assuming you're responding to rgautam's March 15, 2009 post and only referring to the last Indiana Jone's movie that came out. The real issue for me is how did the last sequel compare to all the previous ones?

1. The Tale of Despereaux

There. That's about all you need. Though I'm not interested in Saw V, Wanted, The Happening, or Strangers .

Never mind, Pineapple Express ranks lower than Despereaux in my book. I couldn't get through all of PE.

Okay, so maybe the Indiana Jones movie is terrible. I felt it's great, but not as great as the past three movies....

I feel that your comment is a fair statement that captures the relative entertainment value of all these movies.

I can understand your qualified "thanks." It's actually difficult to judge Indiana Jones movies because they seem to retain an "entertainment value" in that one can watch them over and over again because they have plenty of action, some quirky comedic scenes, and provide the audience with an epic adventure that have at their core major historical events in history. These films would be difficult to label "worst films" by most standards. Yet in comparison to movies that seem to have relevance when it comes to Academy Awards or film critics or just considered "classic" in the traditional way, Indiana Jones films might fall short. Yet oddly Indiana Jones films still can retain a "classic" label in endurance and popularity. The unique aspect of these films is their ability to capture the imagination without the film's having the elements of great movies. They seem to be a whole category of fine films in themselves.
