While it's interesting to read about movies that have positive buzz, with steep ticket prices and high concession prices at first-run movie theaters, it might be of value to hear about movies to avoid and maybe just wait until they go to the DVD market, unless someone can convince one otherwise. Anyway, I have seen the trailer for Stars Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) to be released August 15, 2008. My response is lukewarm at best. As a filmgoer having seen the first six live-action Star Wars movies, an animated version just seems like a step backwards for this franchise, especially as the animation isn't that detailed, sharp, almost indistinguisable animation approach of say Beverly Hills Chihuahua (2008) or even a past animated movie like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001) that was among the first animated features to bring technological realism to the screen. As an adult, this new cheap image approach to Star Wars just doesn't appeal to me for the science fiction magic that the Star Wars franchise brough to the screen in 1977 with the image of a huge battle cruiser in space that took up the whole screen, ther realism transported its audience back than to a galaxy far, far away. The Saturday morning animated version seems more directed to a younger audience who has little experience with the original movies. Probably need to count me out on this new series of Star Wars...my Star Wars journey has ended.

I'm not trying to convice ya that this movie will be THE BEST STAR WARS FILM EVER, but I think I can help you understand why I wanna see it. Wink

First off, I agree, I'm not all that into it being animated. However, I am glad Lucas decided to give us a proper movie over the "traditionally animated" and quick-cutting "The Clone Wars" 'toons that came out just before "Revenge of the Sith" hit theaters. From the looks of the movie, it seems they're keeping the look of the 'toon and taking it a step further with 3-D computer animation. Yes. I'm disappointed he didn't go for a more realistic version (similar to "The Final Flight of the Osiris" in "The Animatrix"), but I'm just ecstatic over finally getting THE WHOLE STORY the way it shoulda been shown the first time, dagnabit!

That's the draw for me. I've been a "Star Wars" fan since I was a small child (but I've NEVER dressed up as the characters at movie premiers Wink) and I've always wondered exactly what the Clone Wars were ever since I heard Luke ask Obi-Wan about 'em in "A New Hope". I've read up on the wars quite a bit and I'm really curious to see how much they stick back into the story that they had to condense or remove from the 'toons. The character I'm most interested in is Asajj Ventress. It appears she has a much bigger role in the movie than she did in the 'toons and I'm hoping it shows a little of what happened after her fight with Anakin on Yavin IV. The movies have their problems (from casting to acting to the over-abundance of CG effects in some areas in the prequels), but I love the story. I wanna play the new Star Wars game "The Force Unleashed" where you get to play Vader's unofficial apprentice, Starkiller. Why? Because it fills in a few of the years between "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope" as Vader tries to overthrow the Emperor. That's just how much I LOVE this story! Big Grin

Yup...Understand completely. I think I've sort of burned out like I am with Harry Potter...I must be a typical American who gets bored easily and need something new. I'm even getting bored with James Bond! Now that's serious. But, yes, if you have an interest in the whole story, I would have been eager to see anything to transfer it to a living movie screen. I hope the new movie meets with your approval.

Meh Razzer I’ll probably wait till it goes to DVD. The animated Clone Wars that was made before Revenge of the Sith filled the gap adequately for me, so I really don’t see the need to for Lucas to retread those waters.

I really wish that Lucas would make something set after Return of the Jedi.

Oh! To see Luke become so strong in The Force that he can crush an Imperial Walker with the wave of his hand?! Luke turning to the Dark Side?! Leia stepping up and becoming a Jedi to save him?! WHO WOULDN'T WANNA SEE THAT?! Eeker

A movie I'm definetly NOT looking forward to is "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor". It just looks awful and I'm sooooo sick of the trailer! I've seen it before every movie I've gone to see in the last few months, but still haven't seen the trailer for "Watchmen" on the big screen! Mad

I'm interested in seeing The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor from what I've seen from the trailer - partly because I'm tired and I'm interested in just thrilling, adventureous entertaining. I do understand what you mean by it's everything that's been done before. I think it's perhaps I'm pretty numb after now getting into summer and my mind has turned off. So, I'm ready for something that may or may not have much innovative, creative value right about now. My standards for movie is on hiatus (except for The Dark Knight).

Surprisingly after seeing the trailer for the new James Bond 007 movie entitled Quantum of Solace being released this November 7, it doesn't look very spectacular or exciting. It's difficult to see much of what's happening in the trailer and there's very little spectacular action footage in it. Compared to Vin Diesel's Babylon A.D. coming out August 29, this new James Bond appears without much appeal. Vin Diesel's movie seems to have all the explosive, energy and excitement one comes to expect in a large action-thriller adventure.
