And even though the books ended, do u think they should make a sequal anywase???
Is this different from the other poll about BEST LotR film? Is favorite supposed to be different from best? Your question at the end does change things a bit. I have no desire to see a "sequel", but there has been talk that if Peter Jackson can get the rights, he would make a prequel from "The Hobbit." That sounds good.

NO to sequels, YES to prequels! Both the Hobbit and The Silmarillion would translate into excellent films!
"If it were beneficial, their father would produce children already circumcised from their mother. Rather, the true circumcision in spirit has become profitable in every respect." -Jesus, from the Gospel Of Thomas
I think in the forum guidelines it states not to make redundant threads like this one, and this one, but anyway as to your question, definately no sequels. Maybe if Tolkein was alive to write the screenplays I would vote yes, but definately no, now. As for prequels, if anyone can pull it off, its Jackson, but I dont think "The Hobbit" has the substance of the LotR to sustain a film to appeal to a mature audience. I mean, the book of "The Hobbit" was targeted at a young audience, whereas the LotR was a book that Tolkein wanted to write for himself.
Anyway, I have no doubt we will see a Hobbit film, and Ill see it, and probably love it to death anyway (if its done by good ol' PJ).

My favorite Bertolucci is Before the Revolution, but his best film is the Conformist.
I have to admit I was impressed with Fellowship, the sheer wonder of the movie-making - dispite my reservation of casting human teenagers as hobbits and my low tolerance for Elijah Wood.
Half hour into Two Towers my thought was: couldn't we just get there without this scenery chewing?
And Return: Enuf already, enuf CGI, enuf noise, the good guys win at the last minute, we get it. (Also, enuf of the moist hobbit-bonding throughout much of the ending.)
Obviously not my kind of material.
But you gotta wonder: what induces studio executives/filmmakers to do awful things like Men In Black II and Alien Resurrection?

Mark f, There is a difference between best and favorite. I think that Return of the King was the best one, but Fellowship was my favorite. There was something about seeing it for the first time. I turned to my wife as we left the theater and said, "We just saw Star Wars." The other two, I just compared against my first experience.

It was a tough split between the first and third one, but I picked the first, just because it got me hooked on the series and got me to actually go back and read some of Tolkien's work, which I hadn't done before.

I'd say Return is the best film, but I prefer the Fellowship. Mainly as it focuses more on a journey with less attention to the battles but also because I really liked Sean Bean's Boromir.

"Fellowship of The Ring" is my favorite of the series. Now that it hasn't been endlessly repeated on cable tv for awhile, I'm planning to watch the extended dvd version again soon.
Prequels, yes indeed. Love to see a Jackson version of "The Hobbit". Never have read "The Silmarillion", might have to give that a go soon.

It's funny how close all three movies are. I would rank them: (obviously, all three are incredible movies) 1. Two Towers 2. The Return 3. The Fellowship
This was basically how I would rank the books as well. The third movie just dragged on WAY too long, an extra half hour of sentimental weirdness, while the attack of the Shire in the books was completely ignored. I also think the battle at Helms Deep is the best of the entire trilogy, including the epic face off in Return of the King.
There can't be A FAVORITE because they are all one continuous story. To only prefer one would be the same as saying, "I really only like a part of the movie." However, I absolutely love the battles in "The Return of the King"! The Oliphants are amazing & the way they plowed through those horses was glorious!
Sad news with "The Hobbit". Jackson is feuding with New Line over money made off of "The Lord of the Rings" movies & has been barred from working with New Line indefinetly. They are planning to make "The Hobbit", but someone else will be helming this flick. Very disappointing. Makes ya wonder if Weta Digital will still do the effects work. I can't picture anyone else being able to do Tolkein's world as well as they did.

Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"

I have also been keeping up with this M_B and it will not be the same movie if Jackson can't do it. I have also heard that Jackson is rather greedy and is asking for money that was never promised to him. I heard that they had to cut production for the "Halo" movie because he kept asking for more and more stuff thus the budget was going up. Finally they asked him to take a pay cut and of course he said no. Either way, another sad thing is that if he doesn't direct The Hobbit the actors will side with him and will refuse to be in the movie. Supposedly they (Jackson and the studio) have been feuding over the money since the last LotR film and that is why a lot of the actors would not go to the award shows, as a sign that they sided with the director. Can you imagine someone else playing Gandalf or Gollum? This would truly stink.

With the success of the trilogy, it seems even with a sub-standard director's contract Jackson would be a very rich man. I don't know the business, but that's what common sense tells me...so it's hard to know his motivation in this feud. But I suppose if he had grievances before hand, and then as leverage New Line said, "Drop it, or no 'Hobbit'! HA!" I might want to soldier on out of principle.
What if someone else does direct "The Hobbit," and cribs some of Jackson's vision for the Tolkein world? Will he then sue them for plagiarism? It seems like a no-win situation...
The two towers is my favorite, specially because of the many apparitions of Golum. My favorite Lord of the rings sequence is the good Golumm vs bad Golum monologue. In fact, I associate Golum with most of people.......
