I just watched the beginning of the extended-version of "Return of the King" and I can see why Christopher Lee was pissed. It's easily the best scene of his in the series, and one of the best scenes of the twilight of his career (Live long and prosper, Chris.) I can also understand why Jackson thought he should cut it, but it makes everything at Isengard make much more sense now. Wow! I gave this movie a 9.5 at the theatre. Maybe the extended version (all 250 minutes) will shoot it up to a 10! Some of you must have an opinion on this E.V. or any others. Please share.

I bought Extended, but am waiting to watch The Extended Trilogy with my brother this weekend, however I had to open up ROTK and at least see some of the Appendices, and man these DVD'S are massive, some good stuff about the filming and editing process as well as experiences with the cast, I wish that New Line would release all the Extended versions for one more huge Trilogy viewing, nothing beat Trilogy Tuesday last year.

I loved the addition of Saruman's scene. Christopher Lee did a wonderful job with his voice, bringing Tolkein's intention to life superbly. This particular scene is actually in TTT the book version and if you haven't already, I urge you to read it.

I heard that Lee met Tolkein in real life and I wonder if there wasn't some discussion about this scene between them.

I also wonder if Lee could possibly have heard Tolkein actually speak these words as Lee's voice is the embodiment of Tolkein's narration.

However, I despise

Spoiler:
the way they killed Saruman! That was a cheap shot, imo.

Ive got say that I didnt like the Fellowship Extended Cut, but ROTK's one is fantastic. The movie flows a lot better and the events and situations of the film are set up, so things happen with reason rather than with the spontenaity of the theatrical cut.

Omitting the Isengard scene from the theatrical cut is a decision I will never understand.

Wow!

What an escape that would be.

Put all the movies together and watch them in one sitting (extended and all).

I did this with the "Back to the future" trilogy, and I felt like I was on another planet afterwards.

I love the Extended Editions of all three but I do think this one is the best. I love the scene with Christopher Lee and there are some other excellent ones.
The Extended edition is probably one of my ultimate favourite Films along with the other two Extended versions. Long but the time flies really. I would love to watch them all in a row but I doubt my mum would let me!!

Wow - I guess I'll give the dissenting opinion...I HATE the ROTK extended edition. (I like the EEs of the others.) They added some really stinky stuff, like the "skull avalanch", gimli's ghost blowing, the houses of healing (so disapointing.) And part of the suspense at the end of the movie is not knowing who's pulling up in the cosair ships, which the addition of scenes totally destroys. Anyway, my 2cents.

The best thing about ALL of the extended editions is that they make the stories flow and make better sense... ti ties thjem all up...

like in The Two Towers, who would have known Aragorn was 87? no-one... until it was told to you that he was a half-elven blood relation... so therefore longer life... i know all my friends were confsed, but are happier now after seeing the longer versions (which i might add, they protestedto in the first place)

RotK was far and away my least favorite of the the three movies. That said, there were some parts in the 'extended version' that should have made the Theatre cut. I would have cut loads of crap out of what did make the actual release. The last 20 minutes-- arguably the most painful scenes in all of cinema.
