Has anyone read "The Peoples' Act of Love?" What a strange book. Was cannibalism the official theme of literary fiction in 2006?

I feel so out of touch. I never buy hardbacks, so Im always about a yr behind. Thus, I am writing down titles you guys recommend for future reference!!
Here in China, 2007 is the Year of the Pig. Last year was the Dog; shame it wasn't cannibalism, that wld have been helpful for culling this runaway population. (just kidding all!)

For me, the best were Suite Francaise, The Road, and Seeing. I love everything Saramago writes so naturally, I'd love Seeing. The Road and Suite Francaise were just superlative.

Widdershins by Charles de Lint. I'm pretty much behind on new books. Usually wait til the paperback version shows up on amazon marketplace. But de Lint is a new favorite author so I splurged and bought the hardcover, still a good price from amazon. I enjoy de Lint's brand of urban fantasy and the reoccuring characters in the fictional town of Newford.
