I've been a Todd Snider fan since Songs from the Daily Planet. I saw him in concert to support that album, and it was one of the best shows I've been to. His live album "Near Truths and Hotel Rooms" captures the humor and energy of his live shows perfectly. His last two studio albums "East Nashville Skyline" and "The Devil You Know" were amazing.

But, I never see him mentioned on these boards. Does anybody else dig his music, or am I just weird?

I haven't listened to much of his back catalogue, but "The Devil You Know" is fantastic, probably one of the best four or five albums I heard all last year.

The trouble with Snider and kindred spirits like Steve Earle and Robbie Fulks is that they don't have a home in the marketplace anymore. They're too loud for the coffee house crowd, too conventional for the indie blogs, too rock for country radio stations and too country for rock stations. It makes for a pretty small target demographic. Which is a shame because Snider ought to be huge.

You should check out East Nashville Skyline. It's every bit as good as The Devil You Know.

I think that sums it up perfectly. In my book, he's one of the best songwriters out there today. But, because you can't categorize his style, people write him off at their first listen. If you don't like country, he's too country. If you like country, he's too rock.

Well, it's nice to hear that The Devil You Know made you a fan.

Todd Snider is the BOMB! We just saw him at the mint in LA last night, and it was probably the best show of his ever. He is freaking amazing, and funny as hell! My hubby and I want to figure out how to hire him for our 20th anniversary party....he is the best!
