Pieta Brown - In the Cool

I was really impressed with her 2007 album Remember the Sun. Just an incredibly solid album of alt-country. Anyways, this album, while not as stunning as Remember the Sun, is still very good. She's quickly climbing my list of favorites.

Also, she's Greg Brown's daughter. I've never listened to Greg Brown before, but since I like his daughter's music so much I figure I probably should now, haha. Kinda the opposite of what most people I suppose. I know Greg Brown is something of a legend among some crowds.

Cold and Blind by Possessed by Paul James is great, easily my favorite of the year. It's somewhat lo-fi, and very raw. It's mostly just one guy on guitar, with a few additional instruments from time to time.

For the most part, he plays pretty primitive Americana with a lot of acoustic blues tied in. Recommended.

While all her work is essential, her 2001 album "Time (The Revelator) is for my money, the finest album of this genre, and one of the very best records of this decade (of ANY genre).
