I would second the Jim White recommendation. His earlier albums are great too, Drill A Hole In That Substrate and No Such Place. Note that the alt-country singer-songwriter Jim White described above is a different person than the drummer Jim White, who collaborated last year with Nina Nastasia and drums in the Dirty Three. RL, I'd give the singer-songwriter Jim White a listen if you've been avoiding his work because of the drumming Jim White
