In my mind, the two greatest instrumental folk artists of the 60s are John Fahey and Sandy Bull. However, I'm having a hard time deciding which is better. I'm leaning toward Sandy Bull, because Fantasias for Guitar and Banjo was such a revelation when it came out in '63. I don't think Fahey really hit his stride until The Great San Bernardino Birthday Party and Other Excursions in '66. Granted, that peak lasted about seven years while Sandy was pretty short-lived. Help me out, what do you think?
