Haha. Wow. I mean I agree jazz-aficionados can be snobby and close-minded, but that goes for purists/traditionalists of any genre of music really. Anyways, I don't think their refusal to acknowledge her as jazz has anything to do with her popularity. There are some elements of jazz in her music but from what little I've heard of her I'd consider her a singer more in the style of R&B.

I recently found Carmen Lundy and Karen Blixt.. Great vocalists! I don't know if they have been around for awhile or not, but they are new to me

I agree that Amy Winehouse is NOT jazz, and that's all I'll say about that. I'm going to offer up Marilyn Scott. She's been around for awhile, and definitely jazz. I'm listening to her new album "Every Time We Say Goodbye", cause it has an arrangement of "Autumn in New York" which always brings a tear to my left eye. (that one usually cries first) So that's my two cents.

I have been listening to Luba Mason a lot recently. I saw her on Broadway some time ago and learned she also sings Jazz. She has a Brazilian jazz record with her husband Ruben Blades coming out in January called Krazy Love. You can read more at All About Jazz. http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/musician.php?id=17609

My favorite female Jazz vocalist is Carmen Lundy. I like her voice very much.
