You are not naive in loving that album. It's phenomenal, and one of my all-time favorite jazz records. And you're right, it's unbelievably intense.

funny thing - I was just blown away by that album today during my lunch break. I love how they recorded those low winds - especially the barry sax and (bass?) trombone (I think he's sing/speaking through it with a mute at some point?!). So buzzy with that intricacy of texture that makes my ears wobble. love it. I would also recommend Let My Children Hear Music. I'm sure there is more to be found, but those two are...ummmm.... (drools for lack of a suitable adjective)
