Don't get me wrong, I actually love the cd, but man, the way all these critics are talking about it you'd think it was frickin' "Revolver" or something, haha. I also found it a bit ridiculous how pitchfork referred to "My Girls" as danceable. Just a thought..

Not nearly as obnoxious as making an awful Youtube video then creating a new thread here to direct people over to it.

Animal Collective ---> so fucking overrated. bad productions, bad vocals most of the time, Annoying high notes, clumsy melodies. The only thing they still have is a kind of "originality", the Ô almighty divine power of Indie Rock/pop/whatever. Also, indie rock these days doesn't even rock. Just a thought.

I didn't mean for it to come across like that. I'm interested to see what people have to say about this, I'll remove the link.

I'd consider Animal Collective "experimental" or "electronic" far before I'd consider it "indie rock"

Getting technical with two terms that are practically useless and one which is being misused.

Nice.

Sorry about my post. I was being a dick. I'm just personally not a fan of the whole youtube world with people posting themselves talking or whatever. You seem like a nice guy in the video, its just not my thing, although I know a lot of people enjoy watching those.

As for AC, I like them a lot and don't mind the praise. I think they'll be looked back on as one of the classic bands of the decade like the Pixies from the 80's, Pavement from the 90's, etc. They've released 4 fantastic albums, so I thinks all of the praise if fine and not obnoxious at all.

I love Animal Collective and I think they deserve all of the praise they get.

They're one of the few bands of this decade who keep on getting better with every album. Growing on what they did the last time and making it into something even greater.

I'm not their biggest fan, but they are the band that made "My Girls" and for that I have to give them their propers.

Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

How on earth can it be 'obnoxious' to give something a lot of praise??

It definitely far too early to tell just where 'Merriweather..." will stand in music history against Revolver etc but there is nothing wrong with all this enthusiasm for something as thrillingly alive as AC's latest.

It's certainly better than the usual waves of world weary ridicule that often flows from our music critics in their aim to get some notoriety - now that is often more than a little obnoxious

I had completely forgotten until reading this thread that when I went to see Glass Candy last night the DJ afterwards played a remix of "The Girls". Can't really say what it was or if it was any good but I just remember the vocal line coming out of nowhere. After listening to fairly generic club music for a lot of the night, I was pretty happy to hear that.

What you're doing essentially arcadefire1027, is going to comic con and asking the people there if they think comics are overrated.

???

Just because we're signed up to the Metacritic Forum doesn't mean we worship Animal Collective. Or like them in any way.

I find it very obnoxious when a band makes the best album of its career and then receives a lot of compliments for it.

Too bad it's not even close to the "best album of their career".

It's so average it's almost painful... I had so much hope.

You know what else are wrong? Opinions. God I hate those. Especially when they differ from mine. Ga'dayam.

Playfulness aside, I really enjoyed this record. Not as much Strawberry Jam, which could be my favourite record. I mean, the shit's still my #1 of 2009, but it still doesn't meet up with SJ.

I kinda find it funny that someone said "My Girls" wasn't danceable.

It pays to kill anyone who has information.

I've put on "My Girls" and danced around my living room many times. So I'd say it's pretty danceable (as well as a little embarrassing).

maybe it isn't revolver, maybe it is better. I'll take any song on merriweather over doctor robert, here there and everywhere and good day sunshine.

I don't know, I din't think all there were that many critics reaching for the hyperbole like instant classic. The majority went with really very pretty very good. Some might say time will tell but didn't sargent peppers get called a classic like as soon as it came out?

The head of state has called for me, but I don't have time for him
