I do enjoy Feist, but I don't think she'll make it onto my list. However, "1234" is one of the best pop songs of the year and will make it on my song list.

Also, I was going to pick "Sound of Silver" or "Person Pitch" as Pitchfork's #1, but actually I think "In Rainbows" will grab their top spot. I mean, come on - a new Radiohead album.

I enjoy Feist too, but there might just be too great a disparity between the great uptempo songs and the handful of good sultry slow ones... and the dismally boring other slow songs. This album is victim of really poor sequencing, I'm guessing. I would have front loaded most of the uptempo numbers, except lead off with Brandy Alexander, and left all the less inspired, meandering slow stuff at the end. In this particular case, I believe that would have served the album well.

Thanks for that Eric, I haven’t heard the album in a pretty long time but I’ve heard your EP about three times in a row now and I like it a lot. The sequencing is great and each and every song on there is fantastic.

I agree with this list, has all the tracks I would like. It did sneak into my top 20 but it's not like I've listened to that many albums anyway.
Does anyone see Amazon as a legit reviewer? Reviews being a joke and most of the rumblings I hear about being paid to write favorable reviews..
I know Amazon is a retailer first and foremost, but for some reason I kind of think that their music lists are just some folks putting together a list of music that they love, not unlike us. I wouldn't ever say that they're a great review source but I'm not going to call the veracity of their list into question. I know a lot of people who really liked The Reminder... it's just that none of them post on this board.

I'd say both lists are pretty mundane. I think any one person on here could make a list of at least equal respectability, probably more. However, I'm glad to see high ratings for "Icky Thump", as that album turned out to be the year's biggest grower for me, and would be my pick for number one. Publications seem afraid to pick big name acts in their number one spot. I think if "Icky Thump" or "In Rainbows" were by unknown artists, they would be more easily considered for top spot. These magazines want to keep their indie cred, so they pick a very solid album by a lesser known act(a la "Boxer"), or a shot in the dark pick. At the same time, the artists stature pretty much guarantees a reasonably high spot on a poorly made, elementary list such as Paste's. I mean, Modest Mouse and the Shins didn't deserve placement for their respective albums this year, in my opinion.

Dang, you’re pretty hard on them. I like all kinds of lists, I will have some gripes from here to there but I wouldn’t call a publication’s list “poorly made” or “elementary.”
And unlike you, I do think that The Shins and Modest Mouse albums are pretty great.

The Current, one of the best examples of why NPR, MPR, PRI and nprmusic.org have some of the best music media out there today, has its host's top 10 list. Really killer. One of the best top 10s I've seen so far.
I like his list as well, there are some great albums on there that I also love and there is also some stuff that I haven’t heard yet. However, and this is for anyone that cares to answer, what makes his list “one of the best top 10s”? And in that sense, what makes a list better/more credible than others?

Keep in mind that Hail to the Thief got a 9.3 from Pitchfork and didn't even capture a spot on their Top albums from 2000-2004.
I think Pitchfork will name either Person Pitch or Sound of Silver as their number 1, though that mention of Kala as being one reviewer's "album of the year" means we can't discount that album either. Remember, the same thing happened last year with Silent Shout.

It was number 39. Check again.
But this year might be different. They could decide, 'screw it, we love Radiohead' and put it as number one.
Hard to say. But LCD and Panda Bear have a good shot as well.
I don't think it will be something completely leftfield. The Knife was a surprise, but Sufjan and The Arcade Fire were easy to see coming, I think.
I don't see Burial being in the top ten even. Although The Knife was an exception at #1 last year with a score of 8.6, historically speaking anything below an 8.5 hasn't made the top ten and Burial got an 8.4. Just my opinion though, guess we'll see soon enough.
01 - Random Spirit Lover 02 - Boxer 03 - Sound of Silver 04 - Person Pitch 05 - Kala 06 - The Stage Names 07 - Mirrored 08 - Hissing Fauna... 09 - In Rainbows 10 - Strawberry Jam
EDIT : Realized I forget RSL EDIT : Holy crap, and Boxer! Bye Bye The Field. EDIT : Had to look at it for a minute. EDIT : Of course there'll be a hip hop album on there, so take your pick. EDIT : There. That looks about right.
Of all the major players for album of the year, Of Montreal seems to be the one getting lost in the swirl of lists that have already come out.
Given Pitchfork's at times contrarian nature, I think this will boost Hissing above Sound of Silver and The Boxer for the top spot, though I think Random Spirit Lover, In Rainbows, From Here We Go Sublime, and Person Pitch all could be the one, or a relative newcomer like A Place To Bury Strangers.
Someone Great, Past Is A Grotesque Animal, or 1234 nabs top song.
