Wonder if he used the FKA-EG75 scoring method...

Pretty interesting list though. He's clearly got too much time on his hands... (oh the irony!)

Interesting. The scoring system used by this guy, however, favors lesser known albums. He says that he weighted the scores so that more popular albums, such as Neon Bible, received less points for being on a list. As a result, Neon Bible is at #51 (despite the fact that it is on most top 10 composite lists).

Now, this list looks familiar:

quote:
OBNER Top 50 of 2007, voted for by members of the Obner music forums.

1 The National - Boxer
2 Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
3 Radiohead - In Rainbows
4 Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
5 Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
6 Andrew Bird - armchair apocrypha
7 LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
8 Okkervil River - The Stage Names
9 Band Of Horses - Cease To Begin
10 Of Montreal - hissing fauna, are you the destroyer?
11 Modest Mouse - we were dead before the ship even sank
12 The White Stripes - Icky Thump
13 M.I.A. - Kala
14 Frank Black - Bluefinger
15 Josh Ritter - the historical conquests of josh ritter
16 The Shins - Wincing the Night Away
17 Feist - the reminder
18 Babyshambles - Shotters Nation
19 Panda Bear - Person Pitch
20 Iron & Wine - The Shepherd's Dog

I wonder if the guy over at rateyourmusic.com used a straight-up point system, like the EG75-FKA method or the method used at Obner, would it produce a list that is similar to our list or the Obner list.

Well I guess that means that Dirty Projectors just need to rise above with their next album huh?

That is very interesting. Anybody know exactly what kind of voting system they use to come up with the Albums of the Year list?

What about the voice of Geddy Lee? How did he get so high?

I'm surprised we're not seeing Spoon at no. 1 on some lists. It wasn't my no. 1, but it could have been on a different day. One interesting thing this year is this shard of super-independent music critics coming up with off-the-wall lists consisting primarily of albums not even reviewed by Metacritic at all. It prompts me to move even furthur left of mainstream center when I see these.

Maybe because it has a little for everyone but at the same time doesn't put all its eggs in one basket.

I't not wierd or obscure enough to be hip (panda bear) but not mainstream enough to saturate the market and get a number 1 by default (arctic monkeys).

It is just a really good album with a few forward thinking tracks.

Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga isn't my #1 either, but I was pleasantly surprised to see it get #1 at CMG, and #2 at DoA.

I've culled together all of Music Emissions' writer's lists into one blog post.

http://www.musicemissions.com/users/dscanland/blog/Musi...op+10+albums+of+2007

Have a read. It seems no one could agree on their favorite.

That's good to hear. I'm just astonished by the ease with which I've settled into Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga's bed of studio flourishes, and the simple pleasure of it. I think we all take some of this stuff for granted what with the unprecedented access to diverse and sometimes undeserving ear candy. If I could go back in time, I'd move Spoon up, and Radiohead down on my year-end list. I somehow morphed into a sheeple regarding the placement of the latter, and may have been too liberal with the former.

Me niether. I've listened to that song several times on Youtube and ... I ... just ... don't ... get it.

I have no problem with shallow, clever, disposable pop songs, but the fabulousness of this song totally passes me by.
