haha - the OC vs. P4K - they are mortal enemies. Well then again not really. Seems like the OC is kind of P4K's bitch, and P4K just wants something to feel superior to.
Well. Just to reiterate. Pitchfork WILL, in fact, give out a less-than-gracious "10" this year. Don't even worry about it. If it's not Radiohead, it'll be something fashionably sensitive, but too cool to care.

In any case, they WILL give the new Liars at least a 9. I'm almost certain.
Why do you think that? It's been said many tmes that this album s way more approachable than Liars' previous, and we all know how p4k is about all that. Even though this is most likely my favorite Liars, I'm not seeing it getting a 9
I don't think the new Iron & Wine will get a 10, but I expect something over 9, perhaps mid-9's. Partly because it flat deserves it, and partly because of how every indie publication loves it when artists constantly reinvent themselves.

Also, I've been rough on Pitchfork in the past for increasingly favoring shitty pop and major-label acts, but I think they've reversed that trend this year. It seems like most of what they've been praising lately has been pretty obscure and non-corporate. Gotta give 'em credit.

It'll at least be Best New Music. They like approachable music, and they like the Liars, and quite frankly, this is just a great album. I don't see any way around that.
I don't think they'll give a 10 this year, partly because I don't think Radiohead's album is going to see the light of day until the beginning of '08. And I'm not sure that it will even deserve a 10 anyway...they can't make an earth-shattering album every time.
Radiohead's chances of seeing another 10.0 review from P4K is about a million to one shot. I'm not saying Radiohead sucks now, but they're definitely past the the point in their career where they're releasing "cutting edge" albums. I don't get the impression that the good ideas are flowing the same way they were in the late 90s. A 10.0 review is going to a band on their way up, not on their way down.

As much as I like Radiohead, I'd say it's likely that their prime is over. No reason to complain, really. Three amazing albums in a row followed by two very good ones is still impressive to say the least. I'm not saying that Radiohead's next album won't be good. Hell, it could even be great. But I'd be hugely shocked if they can still find the enthusiasm to nail it like they did a decade ago. Remember, guys - it's been over a decade since they wrote OK Computer. No one can keep that creative energy around forever.

I don't think Radiohead will put out a bad album at this point, as they've proven themselves to be consistently good, if not necessarily the most innovative band around. But 10.0? Probably not.
I think that Sunset Rubdown has a good shot at this: the album is somewhat accessible but still wholly complicated, they are fairly well-known but not mainstream, and... it's really good!
What about the upcoming PJ Harvey album, White Chalk?
I've heard a handful of the new tracks live and I must say, I'm anticipating the hell out of this one. The first single, which I believe is to be released next month, is already being met with great praise.

I haven't heard of PJ Harvey, P Q... could you describe his music for me?
Although PJ's early, more extreme and experimental albums usually get the kudos, I'd tell anybody who has no experience with her to start with the incredibly-accessible Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea, which contains nothing but great songs and performances.
