http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/41826-person-pitch Woo-hoo!! Very well-deserved, I must say. So it's not a ten, but it's a pretty great score nonetheless.... Especially considering Mark's favorite record of the decade thus far (according to the Pitchfork Best Albums of 2000-2005 feature from '05) was Mouse on Mar's Idiology, which Richardson himself reviewed and "only" gave a 9.6.

A 9.4 is pretty high, that pretty much seals it in a top 5 spot for year-end, right?

Yeah I would be surprised if it wasn't in the top 5, same with LCD.

1. Mark Richardson is stellar at writing the reviews. His review of Person Pitch is so much better than that of the (amateur) writer at All Music Guide. That said, I prefer Richarson's review of Hollinndagain. 2. I've heard that Ryan Schreiber decides all the scores. So, Idiology's 96 wouldn't reflect all that much on how other writers felt about the record.

LCD Soundsystem/ Sound of Silver: 97 Timbaland/ Shock Value: 91 Panda Bear/ Person Pitch: 89 Modest Mouse/ We Were Dead...:73
Come to think about it, this could very well surpass November 1991 as the BEST MONTH EVER in the music world
So I was a bit off... but I feel pretty pleased that I was off by exactly .5 on each one so far. How uncanny. Let's take bets on whether Timbaland will get a 9.6 or an 8.6...

I also am a big Mark Richardson fan. I've been reading his Resonant Frequency column since it started and always enjoy it. There's such an honest, sincere tone to his writing that I really enjoy.

Why do people care so much about what Pitchfork writers think? Most of the reviews are puerile....

I would have agreed a couple of years ago, but they've managed to clean their act up a bit recently (Jet review notwithstanding). Compare their review of the latest Modest Mouse with, say, Tiny Mix Tapes' atrocity. The Pitchfork review is well thought-out and cogent; the TMT review talks about how Isaac Brock is the savior and the voice of a generation and also he wears a business suit made of wasps and... yeah, the last fifth of the review actually talks about some of the songs. They're probably the "biggest" voice in the new wave of internet hype. They can make or break a band these days. Also, who really reads and trusts Spin or Rolling Stone for music reviews any more?

The main problem is that they have so much BS to outweigh. I'm not convinced they've "gone legit" yet.

Pitchfork are getting better in a general sense, it's true, but I still, as always, only go to the site to get news of releases and interviews et al. As far as being influenced by reviews, which I rarely am, I tend to rely on the writers at Mojo. They write straightforwardly, making each sentence count, and almost never bow to fashion or favour.

Wait a minute. He assigns the number score to every album (based on what the original reviewer wrote, I presume)??? I don't think I like that very much!

I'm not actually sure he waits for the reviewer to write before he gives a score...

Well, if he doesn't know you, then he's worse than a jerk and I'm sorry I perpetuated it. I guess he's a long distance from you, but I wasn't sure when I posted, so I think the first thing we need is an EXPLANATION!! I apologize, for damn sure!
