this would be a good year for it. the sheer volume of quality acts releasing new material definitely improves the chances. for the sake of throwing out a fun estimate, i give it a 33% chance of happening.
Probably the band who has a best chance on that list to deliver a 10 is probably the new pornographers. Very good band and pitchfork seems to love them. They'll probably end up with a 9 and change though. tough to get that 10.

Egit: On second thought, the band does have Neko Case and Dan Bejar so they may never tire of them.
Fourth album, actually. It's due out in the fall, I believe. And as I'm of the opinion that they've been steadily getting better, it should be pretty keen. Maybe not 10-worthy, though... they've always done power-pop, and I can't see power-pop getting a 10. The song "Bleeding Heart Show" is a 10-worthy song, though.

Yeah they have, but I don't think their search by rating feature works properly.
Kid A, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Source Tags and Codes, OK Computer, and The Soft Bulletin, to name a few, all got 10.0s.
That'll teach me to trust the P4K webmaster . Thanks.
Edit: O.k., my OCD side got the better of me. If you put min=10 and max=11, you can get most of them, with a few spurious results mixed in. The only frustrating part now is that it gives a server error if you try to go to page 2 or 3. Argh.

I think I've said this before, but the search features on that site are particularly useless. I don't know if they went with the lowest bidder for the site development or what.

I agree. They just need to shitcan the whole search engine and return to listing the letters of the alphabet like the old way. I miss the old brown/tan layout Pitchfork sometimes, too. I bet a lot of posters here don't remember those days.

I was saying that p4k might get tired after their "third album in this case".
Edit: Sorry if that came off as hostile, I was pissed at my gf for some stuff... thanks for informing me about a tentative release period though.

I think for a website like Pitchfork that reviews everything they can and posts news daily, they really should organise their stuff better. When I search for an artist I want a list of lps and eps with the scores all lined up before I click on the review. Grrrr.
There are definetly some big acts coming out according to the metacritic release schedule. Although I can't see aerosmith, jenifer lopez or U2 getting a 10.0 there are plently of innovative artists like animal collective, radiohead, bjork, so theres just as much potential this year as any.

If you take a look at Pitchfork's wikipedia entry, they neatly summarise the 10.0's. You'll notice that twice as many re-released albums receive the top mark, so that's where I'm placing my money this year.
At the other end of the spectrum, it's been a while since their last 0.0. (Liz Phair?) I wonder if anything will offend them to that degree this year...

Yeah, but they do power-pop so damn well...P4K gave "twin cinema" a 9...what else would they have to do to get a 10? It could happen (but I doubt it...they're stingy with the 10's)

And I can tell you not one of those artists is going to get a 10.
So I agree with the person who said if there was going to be one, it would be from a debut.
You pessimistic Canadians always need to bitch about something. Let's narrow down the field to:
Animal Collective Liars Interpol M.I.A.
And you forgot: LCD Soundsystem Timbaland Panda Bear

I bet they regret giving the Trail of Dead album a 10.0. Unless its a safe "classic" album like Yankee Hotel Foxtrot or Kid A which both got tons of advance press of their brilliance, its not going to happen. I don't see them going out on a limb again and then later regret it.

I loved "Source Tags and Codes", and I think it deserved it's 10. I also liked "Words Apart" that was trashed by Pitchfork, 2 years later. But then we had that top 100 of 2000-04 that showed their writers are far from united in their opinions. Jay-Z at number 2? That why not 10 for him, and not for number 48?
