So, I see Pitchfork gearing up to give Animal Collective a big score. They are promoting it much the same as they did The Hold Steady.

The review department and the news department at P-fork are completely separate groups, so I don't think pre-album hype means much of anything.

So are the engineering and marketing departments where I work, but that doesn't mean I never talk to marketing, right? I'm not saying that the number of news blurbs on Animal Collective means that they're going to get a 10.0 or anything, but it has been a decent forcast of a good score in the past.

I could see them giving Animal Collective a really high score. Not sure about 10, but high anyway.

On another note, they gave their first 0.0 in a while today!

They really have a bee in their bonnet about that compilation.

My best guess is that they'll give it to a Spencer Krug band, if they give a 10.0 this year. I would.

Of course, my tastes don't always seem to match those of P4k, but we seem to agree on Krug.

The new Sunset Rubdown is wonderful and live bootlegs of new Wolf Parade songs sound great, too!

In reality, it's hard to see them giving out a 10.0 this year. As good as the new Liars is, it won't get over a 9.0 (if that). We'll see!

Do you think they regret giving a 10.0 to "And you will know us by the trail of dead"?

It'll take 'em awhile to admit it.

Now playing: "Good Feeling" by the Violent Femmes

It almost seems like they got paid to review it, even if they gave it a 0. I can't think of any better reason to waste the featured review spot on drivel like that...especially with so much other stuff waiting to get covered. Unless they're stalling because of controversy over somebody giving something a 10... Big Grin

It was a really good album and all. The band sure didn't prove themselves to be too brilliant though.

Source Tags & Codes is still a great album though. You can't knock that one just because Worlds Apart sucked so much (well most of it, anyway), and ...ah did they have another one? I stopped paying attention. I'm actually happy that they did give it a 10.0. It shows that there are times when they throw caution to the winds and really give a shit about some music.

In a funny way, this whole 10.0 business reminds me of sex. Like Pitchfork went "all the way" with just a couple records, but now they're too emotionally scarred to give it away to anyone else.

I believe you've hit on something, but it's too funny to be pathetic, or is that vice versa?

"Tragicomic" was the adjective that came to my mind.

Finding the review on any given album is particuarly cumbersome on pitchforkmedia, is there any where I can view all the scores given this year on one page - like metacritc does. Thanks

There is...

I don't remember the address for it though. It's a website that basically keeps track of that kind of thing, and let's you search through reviews by different criteria.

So Liars didn't get 10.

The only album I really see having any likelihood of getting it is Animal Collective. I think Sunset Rubdown is a stretch.

I'm predicting Iron & Wine to be awarded the highest score this year. Not a 10 though.

it's gonna be hard to have the highest score without being a ten considering the highest so far has been a 9.9

Personally I'm interested in seeing how highly they rank the new Beirut record. I thought Gulag Orkestar was robbed with only a 7.7. The new one, The Flying Cup Club is pretty damn great.
