So, I figured that we didn't need a topic for every single year-end list that comes out (that would be more than a bit ridiculous), and I as far as I could tell, there isn't another place to talk about these besides the Best of 2007 thread.

So, here's a post that I made over in the Best of 2007 thread that FKA requested that I move here:
quote:

So, another year end list is out - this time it's Paste's, and in my humble opinion, they did a great job of choosing their #1. (For those of you who don't follow the link, it's Boxer. They've also got a cover story on them that talks about a bunch of stuff that I thought most people already knew.) As for the rest of their list... I agree with most of the albums on it that I've heard, but with 100 albums, that's not exactly surprising. One notable omission is Person Pitch; I thought that would be a pretty popular end of the year pick. It's also a bit disturbing to me that they've got Amy Winehouse at #13. Do they really think that she's better than Spoon, Of Montreal, Andrew Bird and Sunset Rubdown? Really? Are they sure?

As well, Harp has released theirs, with Okkervil River in the top spot, and Band of Horses Red Face at #2. Band of Horses was pretty high on Pastes' as well, which is kind of weird, if you ask me. And, like on Paste's, they snubbed Panda Bear! Bah!

The paste list is just silly.

Good idea, C. And thanks for making this thread.

I love both of Paste and Harp's individual number one's. And I guess Panda Bear's album is going to be more divisive then we thought. I am sure sites like Pitchfork and Delusions of Adequacy will have it very high though.

As usual, metacritic will aggregate all the year-end lists through December and January in a very nice, easy-to-read format.

God bless you, MC.

I have no idea what Pitchfork will do, I am sure that some of their top ten will be out of nowhere stuff. However, I have a strong feeling that the albums by Animal Collective, Panda Bear and Sunset Rubdown will be in their top ten, that’s just a guess.

Or they'll do something weird and provocative, like putting Britney Spears in the top 5.

For the sake of predicting and discussion...

Kanye West - Graduation
The National - Boxer
Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam

It's probably going to be Kanye.

I find that their picks are hardly COMPLETELY out of nowhere, but just enough so you're like "Oh yeah? No shit."

Actually, yeah, I'll put money on it.

Pitchfork's #1 will be Kanye West's "Graduation".

That wouldn't be such a horrible thing, I'm still in the process of making my list and find Kanye's album can fit anywhere between the 10-13 spots, so I thoroughly enjoy the album.

i doubt that they will put kanye at #1. while it is a fine album, it is not as good as late registration, with a few dud tracks in the middle. also, the lyrics are very suspect.

my prediction is sound of silver, person pitch, or from here we go sublime.

Of those, I'm only prepared to put Person Pitch in my top twenty. I've heard all three, but dislike The Field's and LCD's new offerings very much.

I was thinking P4k would pick something dark horse-y like Stage Names or Boxer, but now that those are taken, it's less likely. It really could be Sound of Silver. They weren't above being conventional when they chose Illinois, not that I don't really like that album.

I don't know if this is a legitimate list for consideration, but Amazon sent me their year-end picks:
Amazon's Best of 2007

And what's the deal with all the Feist love on these lists?

I think they use the Amazon list here at Metacritic and it sure is different than the rest. I don’t get all of the love for the Feist album either, I heard it a bunch of times and it never grabbed me.

Skimming through the list there are some solid choices, as well as some oddballs. Jimmy Eat World and Britney Spears ahead of Modest Mouse and Josh Ritter? And Okkervil River at 76? Ouch.

It's been on and off my list, and will probably end up on it. I think she's a great singer, but pretty hit or miss as a songwriter. It's not a terribly solid album, but the handful of tracks that really stand out make it a worthwhile album.

If I could cut about half the tracks and make it an EP, it might be the album of the year.
