A very well-written, organized and compiled list. I was worried when I only owned two of the bottom 30. But I rebounded to 16 total and 11 of the top 20.

I really like Popmatters' 'Short Takes' section; gotta give them props for that. I normally look forward to their year-end genre lists as well, but the ones I'm most interested in (singer-songwriter, Americana, country) were lame, lame, lame this year. They were so mainstream and major-label oriented it's pretty sad.

haha - I'm not trying to make anybody look bad. I think we're all susceptible to snobbery, more or less. But this shit about people getting all offended is silly. grow some skin goshdarnit.

I think that's a fair criticism, but the genre lists at PM (except for electronic music this year) are all dependent on a single writer. I think a somewhat more balanced approach tends to make stronger lists. However, that's also part of why I thought the hip-hop list was great. The writer did a good job of looking at all sides.
