Looks interesting. Don't know many of these but those I know I like. And I Love The Hospitals at the top 3! Will definitely be somewhere in my list.

As has been the case for many a year now, The Wire leads when it comes to musical taste.

Vampire Weekend in and NO Bon Iver!!!! Big Grin

That's how to make a list.

oh, and candy floss...you edited yr message but missed 2 spelling errors. How's that happen to a poster with impeccable taste? Wink

Thanx for posting the list. It's really the only one I care about.

This list somehow seems like it's trying too hard to put obscure shit that I've never heard of. I'm not familiar with The Wire but I have less albums (2?!) on here than on the Rolling Stone list.

Well, being unfamiliar with The Wire, you won't know that their whole ethos is about avant garde music.

All in a days' work for this mag. And they genuinely love this kind of stuff, it is infused in their journalism going right back to when they were much more jazz centric.

How did Vampire Weekend end up on this list? Did they decide to toss one catchy album on the list as a gag?

The Wire know a great band when they hear one!

And anyway, the mag has always celebrated more mainstream stuff if it has great songwriting as the Vamps have in spades.

Plus I find it so fucking cool that of all the pop albums released this year, they reject the dross; Bon Iver, The Hold Steady, Elbow etal for true talent.

Wow I have only heard of like 4 artists here, I loved vampire weekend and nick cave and the bad seeds. I respect Wire because along with pitchfork, they were the only one to Kid A a perfect score.

So you guys reckon there is a lot of great undiscovered gold here that will blow my mind? I'm open to anything, well almost anything.

If ya like Kid A mate, then definitely check out Autechre. They are practically a blueprint for that damn album. Smiler

Murcof is another excellent electronic artist and well, personally I love Earth to death.

But so much great stuff here; the immortal Terry Riley and the ever changing Philip Jeck...now he should blow yr little mind somewhat...have fun in outer soundz.

Is it possible that the above list is just their favouite music of '08? Maybe they didn't have you personally in mind when they wrote it up. Wink

Yeah I listened to some autechre tracks on their myspace and really liked them. I got Lp5 but I don't think it is that good, some great sounds but nothing to keep my attention.

Thanks for the recommends, you reckon the magazine is as good as the TV show?

So hardcore that Ryoji Ikedas Test Pattern is at number 12, one of the most inaccessible albums Ive ever listened to.

Any 2008 list without TV On The Radio is just wrong.
