Those would both be a 7.0 at best from me, but prolly worse for Nouns.

My point is that if you like Random Spirit Lover and Nouns (which Pitchfork clearly did), I can't understand how you could give an 8.5 to RSL... it's such a polarizing album, almost nobody just thinks its good; they either think it's okay/bad or brilliant.

Basically I'm saying that it seems like they decide if they want to give a good, middling, or bad score and then randomly assign something in the range.

I still think they didn't realize Random Spirit Lover wasn't on their top 100 list until after it was published. There is no way they did that on purpose.

Love it or hate it, it's a huge oversight to say it doesn't belong on a top 100 list.

The RSL review was written by one guy who gave the record the 8.5. Its not an average or combination of several reviewers thoughts. However, when year-end voting comes around obviously not many Pitchfork writers were too impressed with the album, thus it doesn't get enough points to land on the year end list. You can see each writer's year end list if you're interested.

And with this particular album, I think it makes sense. Most people didn't like it, but there are a few that really love it.

Yes, you're probably right. It seems there are more than a few around here that have an unhealthy Spencer Krug obsession.
