I see that the double-posting goat is loose in the system here today.

We used to get that all the time back in the Yahoo! club days.

personally i dont know if this is a new thing but it seems like most albums on amg usually get a 5 and a half or 5 and a 3rd stars
wich seems pretty silly to me i mean its like they wanna give them
six but they dont wanna seem like theyre overpraising,
also theyre pretty predictable as far as whats gonna get good ratings according to them any mainstream type music is gonna have tons of filler and anything thats underground is not especially with pop music "its always this has too much filler" i mean what constitues filler? anything thats an album track? do they know ahead of time wich singles are gonna be released from the album??,
maybe i havent listened to enough underground music but if youre gonna just be that closed minded why even bothering to write a review ?

It looks like new releases are currently available through the link at the top of the column down the left side.

Also, it's ridiculously slow, but that's probably just the number of users on the site and not the new format.

I'm used to the new colour scheme, but having to go into the discography section, select the CD, and click another link to read the full review is a pain.

I've also noticed the occassional review score change. Radiohead's Amnesiac is now 3.5 stars, and I would've sworn it was 3 stars before. I haven't noticed any downgrades from 4 stars to 3.5, though.

i remember when i first came online i did most of my research on msn. com back when they used reviews from all music guide , i never cared for the look of amg before cause it looked cheap and i hate yellow besides,
but then i got sick of msn music constantly updating there site to the point where i was always having trouble getting to the site.
so i decided to suck it up and go to amg and then i got really hooked, im not too happy with msn music cause i had a ton of albums saved on there that i planned to get and now its all gone without even a warning it really pisses me off Mad

Do any of you get the AMG newsletter? It really buggers around with my hotmail account for some reason. It's like it won't let the page load properly. Anyone get that?

I get the newsletter and I have hotmail, but I've never had a problem with it before.

Discogs has a lot better electronic and hip-hop coverage but little of anything else. I reciently switched to Netscape Navigator hoping that would solve all my internet problems and it solved a bunch but AMG will not load in it. I have to use explorer just for AMG and even opening hotmail with Netscape their newsletter still has mad issues like it won't properly load. Weak.

I noticed that they bumped Spoon - Kill The Moonlight to 3.5 from 3. I guess that makes them less wrong.

But they bumped Aesop Rock - Bazooka Tooth from 3 down to 2.5. I can understand the position* of anyone who defends the still-excellent Labor Days against the thoroughly-incredible Bazooka Tooth, but when I listen to Bazooka Tooth, I'm reassured that I'm right and everyone who disagrees is wrong. Puts every hip hop album that came after it to shame, and makes an excellent third part to the Cold Vein/Fantastic Damage/Bazooka Tooth Definitive Jux trilogy of dense, epic, and classic rap albums.

Not really in the mood to argue it now.

*That the sparer production and more laid-back pace makes Aesop's always-engrossing lyrics easier to swallow. I thought that at first too.

You may be correct, but I'd swear that Stone has changed their ratings down through the years, especially when they put out one of their compendium books listing the bands and all their albums (with ratings.) Sweetie is specifically referring to how "Kill the Moonlight" should've gotten a 4.5 now and originally (I hope I'm STILL not TOO low, Craig, but I think that's a FAIR rating.)

changing the score from a 3 to a 3.5 isnt a big deal tho its still monday morning quaterbacking, as for rolling stone all i know is they have this black mark on there history for dissing zep, and sab and hendrix so much and those scathing reviews are still there untouched

I think the fact that a score goes from one arbitrary number to another isn't a big deal...but I think the bigger issue IS the Monday morning quarterbacking. If you assign a rating to something after you've spent a lot of time with it, what justifies the changes? Public pressure? "Oh...people seem to really like this Spoon record...we better raise the score a half a point!" That seems weak.

I've changed my opinions about records before, so I admit it happens. But I don't get paid to review records, so my slips are far more excusable.

I don't mean to dis AMG...they still provide a good service, even if I don't like the new format. I really don't put much emphasis on their reviews...I use them as a information source, not a review source.

Here are changes I noticed in Sonic Youth's Discography. I'm going off of memory here, so don't think this is 100%, but these are what I'm pretty sure were changed:

EVOL lowered from 5 stars to 4.5
I'm OK with that. Sister and Daydream Nation still are still 5 stars (rightly so.) EVOL could even be a 4 in my book.

Goo raisesd from 3 to 3.5
I'm glad they raised this, but its not high enough. Dirty, Washing Machine and Thousand Leaves are 4 stars still and Goo is better than all 3. I think this deserves 4.5. Dirty and Washing Machine deserve the 4's and Thousand Leaves could stand to be lowered to 3.
