Interesting premise. Surely all of the head-scratching absences like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and all those albums befallen by the 3-album-per-artist rule like Gimme Fiction should be included. But what else? Certainly, your Lost Souls pick is near and dear to my heart.

The Getty Address and Rise Above : Dirty Projectors The Flying Club Cup and The Gulag Orkestar : Beirut . . . and now that Backcountry mentions it, A Ghost Is Born was a surprise exclusion.

Though I'm not suprised, as another Melbournian I also miss the lack of Aussie bands from the list (though the Avalanches did well) (Don't forget Eddy Current Suppression Ring's "Primary Colours".) I agree Grandaddy, Bob Dylan, and Gillian Welch were criminally ignored. I also would have included, among others, Fiona Apple's "Extraordinary Machine", She and Him's "Volume One", and King's Of Leon's "Aha Shake Heartbreak".

Stocky, can you believe I dont have the Eddy Current Album! I blame Canberra on this: I moved here a few years ago and am now without a scene to take my cues from.
Dont get too bashed up about the lack of Australian albums in any North American (scum ) list. It's not like we would have a list full of South African or Irish bands. Sometimes its good to keep our secrets just that.
Does Henry Wagons still have a residency in local pubs down the way? That would not happen if he was ever pitchforked.

Yeah, if ECSR played in a huge venue it wouldn't be the same. Other Aussies on my albums of the decade are Darren Hanlon's "Hello Stranger", Art Of Fighting's "Second Storey", Grand Salvo's "The Temporal Wheel" and let's not forget The Dirty Three's "Whatever You Love, You Are" from early 2000. It's arguable, but I've come to the conclusion that it's their best album.

So if I'm getting it right, this is a list of our favorite albums of the decade minus pitchfork's?
01. Spoon: Gimme Fiction 02. The Books: The Lemon of Pink 03. Explosions in the Sky: The Earth is Not a Cold, Dead Place 04. Girls: Album 05. Lil Wayne: Tha Carter III 06. Dungen: Ta Det Lugnt 07. Bright Eyes: I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning 08. El-P: Fantastic Damage 09. Pinback: Summer in Abaddon 10. Wilco: A Ghost is Born 11. Eluvium: Copia 12. The Gaslight Anthem: The 59 Sound 13. Les Savy Fav: Inches 14. The Tallest Man on Earth: Shallow Grave 15. Aesop Rock: Labor Days 16. Death Cab for Cutie: Transatlanticism 17. Junior Boys: So This is Goodbye 18. The Unicorns: Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone 19. Japandroids: Post-Nothing 20. Unwound: Leaves Turn Inside You 21. Beirut: The Gulag Orkestar 22. Wale: The Mixtape About Nothing 23. Girl Talk: Feed the Animals 24. Grandaddy: The Sophtware Slump 25. Jurassic 5: Quality Control
Do you know what makes me happy? To know not only that a lot of the albums that made Pitchfork's list are awesome, but a lot of the stuff that DIDN'T make it is equally awesome. I love the end of the year (in the case, decade) that allows us all to celebrate so much great music.
Since two Grizzly Bear albums are assumed to not exist, can we all agree on The Department of Eagles now? Personally I prefer it to the Grizzly Bears even, but I'm fairly certain if Yellow House and Veckatimest had never existed, and Dept. Eagles wasn't considered a side project, In Ear Park would have been Huge.
