I know everyone likes to rip on Spin, but the top 20 actually looks really good compared to most of the other lists we've seen.

yeah, it's pretty good actually. And though I wouldn't put the Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson disc in the top 50, it is pretty darn good, and props for them thinking outside of the box.

Spin is better than that POS magazine they call blender. I mean, who puts the Doors in the worst bands of all time list? Really? If you do hate them, that doesn't necessarily mean that they are bad, it just that you don't personally like it. A well-structured CD can be great and I still won't like it (example: Fleet Foxes).
But, I still respect it and recognize it as well made music.

Anyways, it's nice to see the Black Kids high up on a list, but I highly disagree with the Streets amd Santogold's presence. Both efforts seem very ameteur to me. Otherwise, this is one of the better lists so far.

The best list I;ve seen. Spin is easily the best magazine out, not to indie not to mainstream always thinking outside of the box. Glad to see Th N****r tape get some love.

One of the better year-end lists by music mags. Good to see Gnarls Barkley, The Roots, Fucked Up, Nas & DJ Green Lantern and R.E.M. get some props, but including Chinese Democracy for anything other than laughs is suspect. Notable exclusions are The Bug and, to a lesser extent, The Walkmen.

I like the top of this list but I can't condone putting my morning jacket and beck above nick cave and the bad seeds.

And why do a lot of critics lists feel the need to include metallica and guns and roses, are they actually good?

The head of state has called for me, but I don't have time for him

Nor can I. It's a travesty.

Maybe they felt that "metal" had to be represented and didn't hear the better stuff. I haven't heard the Metallica release, but Chinese Democracy is laughably bad, over-the-top awful, off-the-charts craptastic....

I bought a hard copy of this the other day and it's pretty sweet. They have some pretty solid writers and the list itself is pretty good. They also have a very cool picture of Bradford Cox (Deerhunter finished #7 on their list) and I can show it to people and say, "Hey, look, that's the guy who I got like four autographs from and who I talked to for like 20 minutes after the show!"

Yeah, it's pretty cool.
