I can imagine the new intro to the site:
Indie lookin' dewd is about to go out into the day, and we see him unhooking his ipod from his computer after (we all know) putting on some songs that he found out about from Pitchfork.
He walks out onto the street and hits play. It zooms in to the guy's head, and we see a quasi-psychadelic montage of indie bands goin' nuts "creating the music that fills our lives" set to some Broken Social Scene song or something like that. Then, the Pitchfork "pitchfork" logo crashes from above and a wave of electricity cascades through the screen. Finally, the word "Pitchfork" fades in to the right of the logo. Then you are redirected to the homepage.
That's some good stuff, Sweetie. I laughed out loud. You should be in advertising....

I completely agree, it is much, much worse than the set up they had before, maybe if they switched the features with the news/tracks it would be better? also, do i really care about pitchfork reviewing destiy's child?

Pitchfork's writers go to incredible lengths to be hipper-than-thou (which is to say: even when they embrace stuff like "Toxic," it smacks of it's hip-to-be-hip arrogance), but their contributions to the music industry can NOT be underestimated. They are the bomb!

You know, the whole Pitchfork phenomenon (as well as the split opinions about them) probably wouldn't even be a whisper of what it is if they were a magazine or fanzine, rather than an online "news" site. Mags and fanzines have ALWAYS done what Pitchfork does, including trying to be hipper than thou.
Personally, I like "Toxic". It's a good dance song. If it were by someone OTHER than Britney (if it were by, say, Annie) all the hipsters would be all up in it.

I'm indifferent about the new look. It looks more professional now in the sense that you can tell it's done by pro designers. At the same time, it looks like the sort of thing that they will undoubtably change. That's true of any site design, but this looks like something different for difference's sake. Really, the 2003 brown look was to me their best look.

I wasn't overly impressed with the new "Puritan Blister" column, one of the promised new features. A summary of songs about mothers...sounds like a mixtape somebody made while stoned and unemployed. Wait...is that the Pitchfork demographic? The column was kinda cute at points, but not really worth the time I spent on it. I hope that column gets better. And that the other Friday columns are good.

Well. There are alot of good records in there.I think it has more to do to the blazing schedule that is coming up...more than the fork dishing out those good scores.
I cannot speak for all of em' bt the majority are pretty good.

I think it's a fudge to give a rating to an EP, if that score is compared to a full-length.
The new Iron and Wine ep (which I'm sure will be great) getting an 8.5 shouldn't be the same as a full length album getting an 8.5. Unless it's a long ep. Or the album is shorter.
oops. I just sunk my own argument.
I still think the Bloc Party's gonna have to be REALLY, REALLY good to justify that score, but I'm not pre-judging it. I acutally HOPE it's that good!

Eh wot, size does matter?
In that case, a lumbering behemoth like "Blueberry Boat" should've gotten 10.6

The bigger they are, the harder they fall.
I agree about EP scoring, but I'll also admit the Iron & Wine is exceptional....It's all subjective anyway. Don't forget a group of early 20-somethings with no journalistic background and only a handful of credentials among them are reviewing these discs.
