ok in my opinion joy division is indie because of there label and sound. do u agree with both album re-releases being given 10.0s?

I'm not at all surprised that both of those records got 10.0's. I also agree with Pitchfork on the ratings - those are two classic albums. Not only that, their influence is evident in so much music since they were released.

Just a quick note: I think this should be moved over to the Post-punk thread. It would be nice to get some more traffic over there, and I see this discussion involving Joy Division more then Pitchfork. Is there a JD thread?

I moved it over to where it’s at now (started in the indie section) but if just indie wants it moved to the punk section or something, I will move it. There might be a Joy Division thread somewhere but mark would need to combine it himself. Well anyways, I’ll wait to see what just indie wants.

Of course not, Pitchfork are a bunch of hacks. The albums are obviously only worth 9.8 and 9.9, respectively. Imbeciles.

No way, Unknown Pleasures should a 9.7 for its hellish riffage and Closer a 9.9 for its superior thematic cohesion, production, and fragility.

Uh, yeah I agree with the 10.0 ratings...

To expand this thread, which Reissue ratings DON'T you agree with, and think should have or shouldn't have received a 10.0?

For reference, there is a list here

I don't think "Music Has the Right to Children" was deserving of a 10.0. It's a great album, and I love it, don't get me wrong. I just don't feel it was groundbreaking enough or influential enough to warrant a perfect score.

Another album (not a re-issue) that did NOT deserve a 10.0 was "Source Tags and Codes". I still don't understand how it was able to attain it.

Man, I don't know - it's a pretty stellar album. I wouldn't say it deserves 10.0, but for sure at least a 9.0. I love Source Tags & Codes.

I'm happy. Hope you're happy too.
