We all know how gaming has changed over the years. Introducing new graphics, physics and endless exploration of a digital universe. but i would like to hear from you all how you think gaming has changed from being a simple activity, to becoming a way of life and a necessity to escape the real world and to have the freedom to do what you choose and not too be limited by the rules of the real world.

Thanks

I've personally spent quite a bit on gaming just to have the best experience possible, like the latest video card, surround sound system, etc. So I guess, if it isn't a lifestyle, it's definitely an expensive hobby for me.

What games do you play?

Games have definitely come a long way. They reach a much larger audience now. There have always been people who spend a lot of their time playing games, but now that there are so many more people playing games, it's exposed much more so.

I'm not sure what you are getting at, though. I guess it depends on what the definition of simple activity is? The first thing I can think of when you use the words "way of life" is professional gamer or as a content generator/seller. Otherwise, it's not really possible to sustain a "life" without earning money to afford food and/or shelter. However, I guess if someone was free from the requirements of the basic necessities, then they could spend their life inside another world (eg: WoW).

As someone who has been playing games for 20 years, when I played my Intellivision or ColecoVision back in the day, I never really cared about the graphics... I just accepted what was. My imagination filled in the blanks. That's now to say that I envisioned my crappy pixelated characters as full flesh and blood, just that what was there was enough.

A good game back then was just as valuable as a good game is now. A dungeon crawl through Treasure of Tarmin was every bit as entertaining as walking through Neverwinter Nights.

Actually gaming didnt changet at all from the beginning. All th emarket has to offer are just retarded clones of fake 3d DOOM and DUKE NUKEM.

The two games that managed to improve those two are respectuvely Quake and Unreal, instead of having fake 3d they moved to pseudo 3d.

But after these two, the fake 3d were all the market has to offer. Like in the last century, players still see only a hand holding weapons.

Even in the beginning of 21st century, when hardware allows full 3d rendering of action charcters and allows them to move like in reality.

What all these DOOM and DUKE NUKEM idiotic clones offer is still a hand holding weapons and a silly jump button, when pushed moves screen up and down.

Until now only two games were produced in the way to offer normal realistic gameplay, these only two games are obviously Gears of War and Lost Planet.

I dont even know why pc owners are supposed to upgrade their expensive video 3D processors, if they still have mainly mindless DOOM and DUKE clones.
