I’ve read over the entire interweb (twice) and no such community exists. I’m sorry, but it’s true. You list three things in your criteria… 1.) decently populated 2.) rpg discussions 3.) intelligent people …and I’ve only found sites with combinations of two of the three. I wish I could help you, but I’m just a man. I’m not a miracle-worker, Bob. ;-)

Ha. Well, not *all* the people have to be intelligent. Just...well, none of that 'FF7 SUXXORS U SUK 4 LIKING IT' junk. Compromises can be made.

I recommend RPGDL. It seems almost exactly what you're looking for (those are more or less the reasons I go there). The site's premise is to pit figheters from various RPGs against each other in duel settings, which is fun in its own right, but behind that (in the forums) is a great and intelligent community. Many of the members have played so many RPGs it makes my head spin, and they're a fantastic resource. It may not have hundereds of active members, but there are enough that if you post a question you'll get all of the information you need in a few hours if not less. They also have their own IRC channel which is usually pretty active.
I reserve the right to be entirely wrong.

Eyes On Final FantasyIt has a lot to talk about not only FF and everything Square Enix, but it has many posts in General Gaming, where I'm positive you'll find a place to talk about RPGs in. It has a lot of members, intelligent though sarcastic and of course, like any large site, there's a few annoying people, but they're disposed of quickly. Realm of FantasyNow this one isn't really that large, or has many threads on games but if you and other members join, we can fix that. Please join.

gamefaqs.com By far the most popular, you'll get plenty out of it and I've had an account for a while. However you shouldn't trust everyone's tastes.

I know a really good gaming website and gaming forum. The website has 5000+ Games! And also a great forum section. But you need to have a different login to play games and win points. And another account for the forum section. you don't have to have a login for the playing games section. But if you do have a login you can challenge other players and win points etc. its really cool I have a login my self and play games. Also for the forum you will need a login so you can discuss PM etc. (thousands of heaps of cool features). Check it out: Gamers Destiny
