Um, why is this a concern for ANYBODY? You act as if these controllers are only good for a few months and then ya gotta buy new ones. My boys have had their PS3's since they were released (yep, they camped out all day and night for their's) and they are STILL using the same controllers that the system came with. The great thing about them being bluetooth wireless controllers is that:
1. I don't have to worry about being a certain distance from the screen for my cord to reach.
2. Having 2 kids (& a wife) who are constantly in motion would be a hassle if I had to depend on a cord or line-of-sight like I did with my previous systems.
3. I'm not wasting money on batteries every coupla months.
4. A fantastic feature of Bluetooth? I can be doing sumpthing upstairs or outside listening to my rap tunes AND skip tracks without ever having to stop what I'm doing to run downstairs!

quote:
...to the ugly exterior of the console.
That's a little petty. Who really cares what it looks like? "DOES IT WORK?" is the question that should be in your head. "Ugly exterior". That's gotta be the worst reason to hate a console.

quote:
The online gameplay is over-rated.
Can someone explain to me what the crap is the big deal about online gaming? I've been playing Resistance: Fall of Man online and I've been having a ball! What "features" are they missing or what "problems" does it have? It's not like I'm (noticably) missing or experiencing 'em.

quote:
The online updates are a hassle.
WHAT?! Confused You mean the ones you have to perform maybe once a month? Oh, come on! All you gotta do is press "OK" and leave your system alone for awhile. OH NO! I CAN'T PLAY A GAME FOR ABOUT AN HOUR OUT OF A MONTH OR TWO! THIS SUCKS! Frowner Who cares? Roll Eyes

quote:
And from what i've seen,it does not play PS1 and PS2 games properly. I will stick with my Playstation 2.
Name ONE other gaming system that plays games from their previous consoles. Yeah. That's what I thought. Playstation is the only one TRYING to help you hold on to your old games! Besides, don't you already have a PS2? Why would you need to play your games on the PS3? Confused

I'm loving this machine! Granted, I'm not a hardcore gamer and I bought it mainly to watch Blu-ray movies on, but it hasn't disappointed me in the slightest! If anything, it's better than I was expecting! I can download game demos & games, movie trailers, wallpapers, and themes. I can listen to music and change tracks from anywhere in my house or yard. I can (& have) talk to and "kill" people from the other side of the world! (A coupla english blokes were gettin' mighty upset with me in one game! Wink) I can enjoy movies in the best format EVER! I can even get on the internet (with my Bluetooth keyboard) and surf to my hearts content from the comfort of my couch in The Den! Yes, sir. This is the best system I've ever bought! Cool

Doesn't the 360 play old xbox games? I know you can buy the classics on marketplace, but I'm pretty sure the xbox discs work in the 360 as well. I'll go try it out now and report back.

Actually, one of my geeky friends already ponted this out to me a little earlier. He told me about the Wii being backwards compatible with the Gamecube as well, but added that the Wii is pretty much a Gamecube with Wii-motes. (I don't know nuthin' 'bout the Wii. So don't attack me! He owns one and he said it!) I planned on printing a retraction, but I figured SOMEONE around here would end up pointing it out anyway. Wink At least I can say (with confidence) that the Sony Playstation was the first to do it successfully! Cool

He also told me about how much better his PS2 games are looking on his PS3. At first, FF XII (I think it was 12. It was the last one to come to the PS2) looked like complete garbage on it, but now it's absolutely beautiful! So, through updates, the PS3 is fixing the problems it was having with the older generation games just like the X-Box 360 did. Once again, nothing to complain about.

I wonder why YOU'RE answering my post (not that I'm complaining or anything Wink) and MetalKid took back everything they'd typed when they changed their opening post from this:

...30 minutes after I left mine. Confused What's really confusing is that this poster wasn't saying anything about the 360. They were comparing the PS3 to their PS2 and (somehow) came to the conclusion that the PS2 is better. Confused Confused Confused Confused

HOW DAAAAARE YOU!!! Wink

I love the Wii, but I’ve heard the same thing from a couple of mates who are absolute Wii fanatics. Apparently it isn’t that much (if not any) more powerful then the GC, I haven’t noticed a dramatic difference. I’m not the type of person who will look up all the internal hardware/specifications of a console, so I’m not a 100% sure.

Originally, I thought it looked awesome, but I was playing it through an analogue TV, and then half way through playing it, I upgraded to an HD Digital LCD, and all of a sudden you could see the imperfections of PS2 graphics. So, I’d be very interested to see how much better it will look on a PS3, especially because I’d be taking full advantage of the HD gaming with my new TV.

Oh, the term applies in this case. Wink When I told him of this thread, he went on an hour and a half long rant about the REAL pros and cons of the PS3 and how they compared to the 360! He started spitting out all kinds of numbers, specs and performance capabilities. He just wouldn't shut up! However, after I made it clear that MetalKid wasn't comparing the PS3 to a 360, but to a PS2, he was speechless. Big Grin Yeah, he's all about the PS3. It's capabilities are currently unmatched, and with Blu-ray having won the HD war, the technology can only get better! At least that's what he's always said. (Somehow he knew Blu would win out over HD. It's a good thing it did. The world just wouldn't have made sense to him if it hadn't. Wink)

i don't see any reason to hate the PS3, it's a decent machine, i just don't care much for it. it's very nice, but i'll stick with microsoft and nintendo's machines because every game i am interested in playing is on those two systems(and i'm resentful about blue-ray replacing dvd so quickly).

whoooo! lots of intenetting going on in here! :P

I like the PS3, don't have one yet - but I'm seriously thinking of getting one this year. I don't know what all the hub-bub was about the sixaxis controllers - feels great in my hands.

My time on the machine has been pretty positive and now that there's some steam building up - I expect the library to start to mature, though the maturization process on this machine might be pretty long....good for consumers.

Monkey_Boy, you make some good points. The mention of PS3's ugly exterior is a little petty. The online gameplay can be fun for some people. I can over look the online updates. On the issue of the controllers, i say the batteries will fail sooner or later. Then what...throw it away or play it connected to a short recharging cord. I think not. About the PS3 playing PS1 and PS2 games, i ask. Why jack up the price on a machine for a feature that does not even work properly?

I've been told I'm a master debator. Wink I had noticed you'd changed your "hate" to "love", but was it really what I had typed or did you actually play with your friend's PS3 a little while longer and then changed your mind about the whole thing? I'll admit, at first, it does sound messed up ("I can't change the batteries in the controllers?!" "I HAVE to wait on downloads?!" "Online gaming isn't that cool!" "I CAN'T play my old games on it (the 40 gig anyway)??????!!!!! Playstations are SUPPOSED to be backwards compatible!" Mad), but when you look a tad closer, you find the complaints aren't that big. I was a tad disappointed when I found out I had to choose between listening to my music and playing most games (or doing anything else on it), but does it really take away from how great this system is? I don't think so! Cool

I'll tell ya one more cool thing about the controllers:
When the battery does end up needing to be recharged, you can still play with the controller while it's charging up! This also means that after the battery finally dies for good, you could still play your games with it as long as it's plugged in! Ya know, until you can get around to buying another one (but this won't be an issue for quite some time, as I ponted out earlier).

Regarding the original post before it was edited.

The ps3 controller is a bad design. Honestly, I'm suppose to toss a perfectly good controller in the trash when the battery fails? Come on. That's a bad design. Period. Playing while recharging? Oh that's handy while hanging off the recharger. I think not.

Sony should of provided a wired controller option, especially at that price. It's the same reason I won't buy an iPod. When batteries become non-user serviceable parts, I'm not interested in that product. Sorry.

From what I've been reading, the 80gb version has the Emotion Engine removed (affects ps2 compatibility) to get the price down and replaced it with software emulation. So don't toss your older ps2 in the trash just yet. Looks like Sony has decided good compatibility ain't worth keeping anymore. Or run out and get a 60gb version before you can't get one anymore, supposedly that one still has the ps2 compatibility in hardware.

Dude, you're sooooo thinking of an X-Box 360. That's the one where you have to buy an extra kit in order to play your games as the controller recharges. On the PS3, you connect the controller to the CONSOLE to recharge. Right in the front where you would plug a wired controller!

quote:

Really? So you'd rather be tethered to your telly, huh? Well, if you really want a wired controller, you could just leave it plugged in! As I said, you can play WHILE it's recharging (with NO EXTRA COST to you) and, after 2 years or so, when the lithium battery does end up dying for good, you HAVE THE CHOICE to use it as strictly a wired controller until you get out and grab another. Honestly, with the money you save on batteries, why not just spend it on a new controller every coupla years?

WHO CARES ABOUT THIS MACHINE PLAYING LAST GENERATION GAMES?! Confused C'mon! Why is this such a huge deal? Do you know how many of my PS1 and PS2 games I've played since I bought my PS3? 0. Zero. Zilch. Zip. Nada. If I really wanted to play them, I'd just pop 'em in my PS2. It's just that easy!

I realize you don't, but it's pretty obvious others do if they keep bringing it up. Not everyone has a PS2. Some even sold theirs because because Sony assured them the PS3 would play older games.

You hit the nail right on the head. I have plenty of Sony equipment, old games I love. I've also owned some other non-Sony systems. I find it rather easy to be non-bias and it's not so hard to point out the flaws. Nothing is perfect, this includes the ps3. Sure I can keep my old ps2, looks like I will have to if I want my old favorites to work as they are suppose to. It's a good thing I researched it before I sold my ps2.
