people who compare VII to X really worry me. X was okay but it was really just a lame teeny-bopper spin off of the, previously, perfect rpg series. i have to say that VII would be one of the best RPG's ever imo. (I personally liked FFIX better due to plot and characters, but I am in no way ignorant enough to suggest that IX was better than VII.)

You're really not giving Final Fantasy X enough credit, ilikemusik. It did a lot of stuff much better then any previous incarnation in the series.
The fluidity and intuitive depth of the battle system, the non-linear but still workable level-up system, the games side-quest design, and the games ending (which was brilliant, albeit in someways ruined by X-2). It was a very, very good game.
To label it as a "lame teeny-bopper" spin-off is understandable but still misguided. The voice-overs are annoying (purposely, I think - because the narrative is excellent), and Tidus is borderline unbearable through most of the game. It was very much a love story between two teenagers, and in a lot of ways, it felt like a "teeny-bopper" version of the series because of it. I just don't think you can cut-and-dry label it that way.

Final Fantasy VII was a great game, but far from being the best role-playing game ever. There are better games in this genre such as FFVI, Chrono Trigger, and Xenogears. Also FFVII has not aged well....the graphics aren't good at all anymore.

UH guys what about Planescape Torment, Grim Fandango, Balder's Gate series and Fallout 1+2. Have any of you guys played the classic CRPGS? Many of these titles are way more complex in story and nature than most of these handfull of console rpgs you name. Yes, FF7 is a great game, I beat it two times but as the best no, there are far more unique rpgs out there not on consoles. Do some of you guys even know the greatness and innovations of Looking Glass's Thief and System Shock series? Probably not.

Hey!
I was surfing on the net a few days ago, and I found a really interesting rpg game. It is called the world of lagas, and at first glance it looked like a dark fantasy game from the introduction. The funniest thing is that it is a massively multiplayer game played by email...EMAIL!!!It is more like a logical game for me. I like to twink my characters... JAnd also, it seems to me, like I will get a novel like story about my adventures in these emails!! I can’t imagine, how would it work out, but I do not have time to play a real mmo ( work, GF, RL duties), i might give it a try. Anyone heard about it? Could you share me your opinions?

I'd say its not the best ever...
And I'll even explain why I think Morrowind is better. FF7 broke some new ground as already expressed, but Morrowind was revolutionary for an rpg.
The amount of freedom you were given in Morrowind was simply unheard of for almost any game. The first time I played the game I probably spent a whole week just doing sidequests and working my way up the ladder of various' guilds before I even started to do the story.
I also found the experience system in Morrowind very refreshing, from the typical you get a set amount of xp for killing a monster no matter how hard it is. To you get experience in certain skills when you use these skills. So if you killed something with a long blade and hit it 4 times you'd get 12/100 of a long blade skill. If you've played the game you know what I'm talking about if not I don't feel like explaining the whole system.
That being said Morrowind was somewhat buggy and the plot itself was somewhat linear. Still nonetheless a very great game. Even after you beat it theres still a lot to do (especially with the expansions..).
Anyway thats why I think Morrowind is a great rpg.

That's not really true. Ever play the Elder Scrolls games preceding Morrowind? It was just the first game that offered that kind of freedom that was widely known.
I had a stick of CareFree gum, but it didn't work. I felt pretty good while I was blowing that bubble, but as soon as the gum lost its flavor I was back to pondering my mortality.

Oblivion was barely an RPG at all. It had zero depth and was well and truly dumbed down for console morons. Morrowind was great though. I really dislike Japanese RPGS, mainly because they're all the same. FFIII/VI was quite good, but if you've played that, there's no reason to play any others. They all revolve around a group of overly emotional kids who go on a journey and occasionally say "..." to each other. All set to unbearably cheesey orchestral scores.

As I said earlier, Arcanum was an extremely open ended RPG. You never even had to touch upon the storyline (there were several too) to enjoy the game.

Man that was a great game. I think I probably beat Arcanum four or five times. Cool as hell all around.

Also, several people overacted when...
ok see... is was a good idea for them to kill off a character because it makes the story that much better.. and u would never think they would kill off one of the characters u get on your team now would...??? ALERT: SPOILER AHEAD!!!
Aries died.
(Gasps/ Crying/ Shouts of "We already knew that")
But honestly, Aries is a digital character, not family. Don't go emo on something from a video game. Just play it and enjoy it.
