I do not play many games, and am looking for a recommendation for a game for either my PC or PS2. I am looking for either an adventure or role-playing type game. I used to love the Tomb Raider games, the early versions of Might and Magic, and going way back my favorites were all of the Kings Quest/Police Quest games on PC. Any ideas on something I would enjoy now? Thanks.

Well, let's see. I don't know what games you have, so its hard to see.

I don't game on my PC, but how about Morrowind? It's a first person RPG and the game is massive. I've played it on the Xbox, and its great. I've heard its only better on the PC.

For the PS2, maybe one of the Grand Theft Auto games. It's one of the best series ever created. I've loved all 3 on the system. Maybe Final Fantasy X, I loved the game, others didn't enjoy it as much.

If you have a high-end PC, you just couldn't go wrong with Half-Life 2. Even though it's classified as a first-person-shooter it's really more based around puzzle-solving. The first one is also an excellent choice if maybe your PC can't handle the second one.

As for the PS2, I also think Final Fantasy X would be a good choice. It's pretty much the definitive R.P.G. of the next-generation consoles I.M.O. I think a lot of people didn't like it because they changed the upgrade system, but if you haven't played the earlier ones it won't matter at all to you.

I would recommend getting Metal Gear Solid 3:Snake Eater. I know it's mostly an action game but since its set in the jungle I guess it could be classified as a adventure game. The levels range from large to huge and there's a lot of exploring to do. Plus there are some very small elements of healing yourself when you get shot, hunting animals to stay alive and stuff like that. You said you liked the Police Quest game, well Metal Gear does have a military advisor (Mr.Mori-san) who helped with all the close quarter combat, and probably helped with the wonderful fight coreography, not to mention real guns used in the 60's. All in all, actually Metal Gear is a stealth game, but I guess you could relate it to Tomb Raider a little.

I agree with Half Life 2. It's simply an amazing game! But, as Ian said, be sure your computer is able to run it properly. If you like adventure games, I'd reccomend checking out the Monkey Island Series, and in the world of RPG's, it doesn't get much better than Diablo 2. As for the PS2, as other people have mentioned, the Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear Solid series' are all excellent choices.

My friend has been raving about Shin Megami Tensei for the PS2 - an RPG where you can negotiate and talk to the monsters and get them on your team, it takes place in a really creative world. at the same time my other friend is really fed up with FFX because it is unbelievably long (60-70+ hours) and the story is sort of cliche and stupid. On the PC side there's Morrowind (for 30 bucks you get an incredible gameworld complete with expansion packs for PC), it's not a real engine hog and it's incredibly fun. Knights of the Old Republic is excellent too, esp. for PC. And yes, HL2 is also *amazing*.
others:
PC:
Sid Meyer's Pirates!
Chronicles of Riddick: escpae from butcher bay
rollercoaster tycoon 3
warcraft 3 - RPG/strategy, and cheap now
