So, how about it? Looks to be an interesting week in video gaming. Prototypes for PS3 and Revolution have already been revealed, and there's going to be some sleek gaming goodness going on next gen. So feel free to discuss E3 and what not in this topic.

I reserve the right to be entirely wrong.

PS3 looks like a breadbin but bosts some very impressive specs.
XBox360 looks absolute great but yet again, got no games backing it up just like when the original was released.
Nintendo Revolution is impressing me the most. Despite it looking like a stainless steel paving slab. Taken from another site, the free online gaming is going to be a major attraction.
quote:
For 16 years Nintendo has owned the handheld market and we're not letting go. GBA has sold 28 millions units in North America. DS has sold more than 5 million units more than double the PSP.

Let's move to the right handside f your brain. Electroplankton is not just it's own game, it's a new genre it'self. I created everything you hear directly on the Nintendo DS. I had no need to input anything else from another source.

We intend to reinvent the online gaming scene. We are using Nintendo WiFi connection. It occurs on 2 distict levels. You can choose to play with opponents you know or opponents from around the world. We expect the participation rate to be 90%. Here's why. Our wireless solution tackles all 3 problems previously. You do not need a broadband connection, there is no cost. Gamers will never get bills for the service. All 1st party games will be free online. And thirdly you will be able to play people from all around the world from wherever you are. Around the world over 25 publishers are creating games for WiFi on the DS. We intend for you to be playoing Mario Kart and Animal crossing using WiFi by the end of this year. You can test Mario Kart wireless tomorrow here at E3.

Nintendogs - The first thing you have to do in Nintendogs is pick a dog from the kennel. The first thing before you train your dog is show it a bit of love. You can name the tricks anything you want. This is all done by voice. So you can actually talk to your dog. After training your dog you need to have some fun right? Nintendo were great and lent me a Mario Kart. How fun is that. Now lets wash her. See we can put the soap on and now lets rinse. A great thing is called the bark mode. So lets go to the search mode. Ok so did you hear that bark. That means somebody wants to play with you. I am a huge fan of the Nintendogs. *laughs from the audience. Suggests the new friend is being naughty!!

Now I know you haven't seen this. It's GameBoy Micro. Just a hair bigger and about 2 thirds the weight of an IPod mini. This Micro plays all the GBA games. IT has the best and brightest screen we have ever seen in a handheld. You can customise it with a wide array of faceplates. It will come to market this fall. It is not a sucsessor to GBA or DS. (lights go down and a presentation of games is shown)

You want a Nintendo Revolution? Well we got one. This is the Ninteno Revolution prototype for meetings this week in LA. It is by far the smallest consoles we have ever produced. It will be about the size of 3 DVD cases stacked horizontally. It can be played vertically or horizontally.

12cm Optical Discs. All will play through the Drive. GC discs too
Small attachment to play DVD's
Comes in 5 colours but might change, black, green, silver, blue, grey
512 MB onboard flash memory.
Option to add SD memory card
Own Digital Rights Management technology

When your turn the Revolution you will be amazed at the graphics. Let me try to tell you the added benefit of the revolution. WiFi will be built into every Revolution. The revolution is right for everyone. All controllers will be wireless. They will be very unique but we will share that later. We are already working on several WiFi games ready for launch. I am making sure smash bros is one of them. No matter where Reggie is I can always beat him!! It is the game experience that will seperate the Revolution from it's competeitors. Next generation versions of Mario and Zelda are already on the way. We also have big plans for Metroid for Revolution, we will take you places you've never been before. The key is not what you are playing but how you are playing. The revolution will help create brand new genres to move the games industry forward. We expect strong 3rd party support. Square Enix is already working on a Final Fantasy game for the Revolution. The revolution will be the cheapest system to develop for.

The Revolution will be backwards compatiable. You will be able to download 20 years of past games from NES right up to N64. It is accurate to say that the Revolution will be able to play every game ever produced for a Nintendo system. The machine is just a tool, the experience comes from the software. We intend for the Revolution to attract Core Gamers, Casual Gamers and Non gamers. We call this all access gaming.

Behond this year a Revolution awaits. END

HOT OFF THE PRESS - IT'S A PRESS RELEASE!!!

Nintendo's Compact Console Will Turn The World Of Gaming On Its Side

New System will be Forward-Thinking, Yet Backward Compatible

LOS ANGELES, May 17, 2005 - Each generation of video game consoles builds on the past to set new standards for the future. As the company with the strongest heritage of innovation, Nintendo redefines expectations for all next-gen systems by employing a wide-ranging strategy to attract more kinds of gamers to more kinds of games. When Nintendo's new console, code-named Revolution, arrives in 2006, everyone will discover the meaning of All-Access Gaming.

"We will show the world what a next-gen system can be. Revolution marries the strongest heritage of innovation to the future of gaming," says Nintendo President Satoru Iwata. "With backward compatibility and the 'virtual console' concept, the stylish, compact body provides maximum gaming power. It will not only take home entertainment into another dimension by expanding the definition of video games, but it also will give you access to the great history of gaming."

Some of the system features that wowed the crowd at the Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles include:

The cool look: The new console boasts high-quality materials and a smart, compact design, approximately the size of three standard DVD cases stacked together. A variety of prototype colors are being showcased during E3. It will come with a silver stand that makes the system a welcome, artistic component of any multimedia setup, whether it's displayed vertically or horizontally.

Backward compatibility: The new console plays all games from the current Nintendo GameCubeTM generation. But there's more...

The secret weapon: The console also will have downloadable access to 20 years of fan-favorite titles originally released for Nintendo® 64, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System® (SNES) and even the Nintendo Entertainment System® (NES).

Easy expansion: A bay for an SD memory card will let players expand the internal flash memory.

Two disc formats, one slot: Instead of a tray, a single, innovative, self-loading media bay will play both 12-centimeter optical discs used for the new system as well as Nintendo GameCube discs. Owners will have the option of equipping a small, self-contained attachment to play movies and other DVD content.

The specs: The system boasts 512 megabytes of internal flash memory, wireless controllers, two USB 2.0 ports and built-in Wi-Fi access. A worldwide network of Nintendo players can gather to compete in a comfortable, inviting environment. Revolution's technological heart, a processing chip developed with IBM and code-named "Broadway," and a graphics chip set from ATI code-named "Hollywood," will deliver game experiences not previously possible.

The stars: Introduction of a number of new franchise properties will add to the world's richest stable of stars, including Mario, Zelda, Super Smash Bros., Donkey Kong and Metroid.

Wireless freedom: A number of Wi-Fi-enabled launch titles are in development that will employ Nintendo's newly announced wireless gaming service, Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection. A worldwide network of Nintendo players can gather to compete in a comfortable, inviting environment.

Freedom of design: A dynamic development architecture equally accommodates both big-budget, high-profile game "masterpieces" as well as indie games conceived by individual developers equipped with only a big idea.

"Our next console proves small in size but big on ideas," says Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "We're throwing open the doors of gaming to wider audiences, from casual players to hard-core gamers who live for the thrill of defeating an endless army of wireless opponents."

Nintendo's All-Access Gaming philosophy covers the spectrum. The next console fits anywhere. It brings together new games and old. It gives people worldwide access through wireless Wi-Fi connections. And it opens the world of video games - to everyone. Software for the new console will even attract people who don't consider themselves players. Adults, kids, men and women around the world will have access to the most popular video game characters, the best game franchises and the most engaging experiences yet developed - only with Nintendo.

It is far too early for me to even guess what any of the systems will be like. The only developer who isn't being tight lipped is Microsoft, and I am not that excited about the XBOX 360 after hearing about it (and this coming from someone who cannot put down the 'Box). I especially don't like that they are only doing backwards compatability for some of the "More popular" games.

I am trying to keep up with E3, and thankfully G4 is an excellent source of covering the expo.

There wasn't as much in-game footage of the graphics as I was hoping for...so far I'm not at all sure if they showed in game graphics for PS3 even once.

They did show in game grapghics for Xbox 360, pretty nice, but as Mike said we don't know anything for sure.

One cool Xbox 360 spec I liked was that It will "easily" be preforming over 60 frames per second. From what I got the frames wont go below that.

I think microsoft was a tad to open and really wasn't prepared for Sony to blow away everyone with it's PS3. The revolution is to secretive I feel personally and only boasts the ability to download any Nintendo game ever made (I know most of us know this stuff, but the thread creator was asking).
