With the 2008 Golden Globes awarding its best foreign picture award to the animated documentary Waltz with Bashir in competition with other live theatrical features, the distinction between live and animated movies continues to narrow making the possible artificial distinction of having a separate animated film category award more and more irrelevant. As Wall*E (2008) amply demonstrated, animated features can stand on their own with live motion pictures as well as now an animated foreign documentary.
