I've gotten a bunch of questions from people looking for the definitive GameCube game. I can name a few, but I'd like to know what other people think:

Metroid Prime
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Animal Crossing
Viewtiful Joe
Resident Evil

Pokemon Colosseum
Super Mario Sunshine
Dead To Rights - It's a guilty pleasure.

But then again, I also buy nearly every single 1st party game Nintendo releases.

the definitvie GameCube game?

you can find it at the very top of metacritic's index of GC high scores... exactly where it belongs.

Metroid Prime

and to anyone that considers themselves a Zelda and/or Resident Evil fanatic-GameCube is the way to go.

It's got to be:

Gauntlet: Dark Legacy

Even my 3 year old son loves to play it!

As for Super Mario Sunshine - we can't get past the first level so it's been absolutely no fun at all.

Star Wars Rebel Strike may be a rather uneven game when it comes to the actual gameplay. Still nothing really captures the intensity of the Star Wars universe just like this game so I'm willing to look beyond the flaws.

Other Favs include:
Metroid Prime
Resident Evil (the first one)

Just wanted to put my vote in for a game that might have gone under many people's radar:

Smuggler's Run: Warzones

An improved version of PS2's Smuggler's Run 2: Hostile Territory, it has some of the most fun off-road driving on the Gamecube. Check it out! You can find it new for $20 and used for even less.

1. Mario Sunshine - oddly underrated, this game has provided more moments of pad-hurling frustration and pure, unfiltered joy than any other I've EVER played;

2. Eternal Darkness - magnificently creepy, this insidiously unnerving game gave me two jump-out-of-your-seat moments (the bath, the piano) way ahead of anything in Resident Evil. Wonderful voice-acting, too;

3. Animal Crossing - magical, enchanting and often downright hilarious, Animal Crossing is just something deliciously different;

4. Pikmin & Pikmin 2 - the sequel is everything a sequel should be: bigger, better, faster, MORE! It contains some wonderful extras (the piklopedia, Louie's creature "recipes" (!) and will appeal to the collector in everyone. But...it loses the sense of discovery of Pikmin 1, and focusses too much on combat as opposed to the beautifully designed and thought-out puzzles of the original. Less urgency means the loss of the emotional weight of the first game, too. Nevertheless, two player is a hoot, which puts both about level in my opinion;

5. The Wind Waker - The dragon rescuing you from Ganondorf, the final battle with the aforesaid nemesis, the goosebump-inducing Master Sword discovery: all absolutely majestic gaming moments in this masterpiece of a game. Slapped wrists to Nintendo for the Triforce Quest and the lengthy bouts of aimless sailing, though. Tut tut;

6. Mario Kart: Double Dash!! - Just fun, fun fun: pure and simple. Oh, and evil cheating computer opponents. That, too;

7. Winning Eleven 6: Final Evolution - Chances Left! Oh Shii! Semponi Fever! NICE IDEA! Gooooaaaaaaaaaaaal! etc. etc;

8. Burnout 2 - Third to last Crash junction: over £100m of damage. I rule! If only 3 was coming to Cube, too. Sniff;

9. Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour - best opening movie in a game since, like, EVER. A wonderfully playable and fun golf game that is much harder than Tiger Woods, and therefore more representative of the actual game. Tiger gets easier as you go along. Not so MG:TT. And you can play as Wario. Wah! Top stuff;

10. Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life - or rather A Wonderul Three Years Before You Realise You've Seen Everything There Is To See And It Gets A Bit Boring, To Be Honest But Hey! 50 Hours Of Gaming Goodness Is Not To Be Sniffed At These Days to be more accurate. Still great, though.

Zelda Collectors disk (Zelda, Zelda II, OoT, MM)

Zelda Wind Waker - although sailing around getting the triforce pieces gets to be a pain

Resident Evil - holy shit that thing is fast! and my head just got slapped off - damn

Resident Evil 4 - a new classic is born

Eternal Darkness - what just happened? great story

Of course you can see by my picks that I lean towards big adventures and horror games - so there you go - my favorite cube titles.
