I need a game desperately, and I was thinking an RPG that will last me a long time so i don't waste my money. Either Phantasy Star Online, or Skies of Arcadia, which one's better??

PSO 1 & 2 (which is clearly superior to vol III) and Skies of Arcadia Legends are vitually identical according to the critics. If you're playing alone, I'd say you have to go with Skies of Arcadia Legends. I've heard only really good things about it. It's also getting a 9.6 user score on Metacritic's page. See what some of the users have said at the bottom of that page.
Well, which one is a more traditional-style RPG (not gameplay) but has an actual overworld, and you have a choices where to go, not like the new-style FF games.. Also take animation into consideratoin, which one is smoother? Thanks to ANYone who helps!!!

I haven't played PSO but I can say that SOA:L is one of the best games I have ever played. It does have an overworld, and give you hundreds of side missions to do while travelling in and between the areas in which the story progresses. Its very long and I found it extremely involving thanks to the twisting story that becomes suprisingly dark towards the end of the game.
If you're going to go online, and you enjoy a social aspect with your gaming ... go with PSO. If you're not going online, Skies of Arcadia is definitely the superior RPG of the two.
if you haven't made the purchase yet I'd definitely suggest tales of symphonia - it just came out and it's supposed to be HUGE, with an awesome battle system, overworld, etc... I want to buy it ASAP. and if you've never played ocarina of time for N64 I would really suggest the zelda collectors disc (if you can find it). ocarina of time is the best game ever made and the graphics in the sequel (majora's mask, also included) are better. ocarina's good for at least 30-50 hours depending on how much stuff you do. the disc is worth whatever you pay for it (although I saw it used once for $80 I think you can still get it for $20 plus a subscription to nintendo power) and you get to ride a horsey. while shooting arrows. cool shit.

i would deffintly get zelda the wind waker its a game u can always go back to and play even if u already beat i beat it like 3 times and im still playing it i dont ever get tired of it its way to fun. T CAT
If it counts as an RPG, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.
Otherwise, Tales of Symphonia seems quite promising from the odd two hours I've clocked into it, and I hear it's a pretty massive game. If it's at all useful for reference, it plays quite a lot like Star Ocean: Til the End of Time, which is one of the PS2's top RPGs.

No one has even mentioned Paper Mario yet. I'm digusted. Although it's a game with a kiddy appearance, it has THE best turn-based system of any game, bar none. How can I prove that? The battles are actually fun (you know that when you're playing FF that the battles are annoying and complicated).
Tales of Symphonia is the way to go unless you are dumb. The story is awesome, It has 100+ hours of gameplay if your an average gamer, And the battle system is insane. I beat it and i have found no games that even come close to it. Plus, you could spend another 50+ hours on the sidequests. And, if that wasn't enough, ther is TONS of equipment/items. It's the way to go.
I'm about 13 hours into Tales of Symphonia, and it is an excellent game. The story... well, it's a little reminiscent of Final Fantasy X, but I'm sure there's going to be enough different that I will enjoy it.
And those battles are fun, and boss battles are actually challenging! Overall this is a pretty great RPG. I'm glad I picked it up.
edit: Paper Mario 2 is a fantastic game. Fantastic fantastic fantastic. Everything about it. If you haven't played it, do so.

Woah it's kinda freaky seeing my post from 2004. Turned out I bought SoA for $20, so mission accomplished! I remember playing it in Iran when I was bored; didn't like the battle system, but story/characters were incredible. In hindsight it was one of the greatest RPGs I've played, yet I sold it..
For the record, - I had already beaten ToS at the time - Paper Mario 2 wasn't out at the time - I STILL haven't played PM2.. I plan on it though
Overall the gameplay of ToS was better, but story/characters of SoA will always have a place in my heart. Thanks to all for the experience.

Symphonia was fun, but the plot - to me - seemed a little slow/derivative of Final Fantasy X.

Not counting the Zelda games I would have to say Tales of Symphonia, which was a huge game with a fun battle system, and great graphics. It had a solid story too.

I used to love the game Zelda especially on the Nintendo growing up. The other computer game that I used to love was Diablo but for some reason they stopped making the game. I have heard good things about the Skies of Arcadia but haven't had the opportunity to play the game myself.
